Clothing question

    Clothing question

I'm not usually one to put clothes on dogs. It's just never been my thing, really. It's cute when other people do it, but I just never thought I'd put clothes on my dog.
Well...and this may be ridiculous, but my concern is, Ella is a pit so she has REAL short, thinnish hair and I was wondering if I should get her a sweater or something to keep her warm when I have to walk her in the winter or in the cooler autumn months? I've been considering it. She doesn't even like the rain.
Anyway, any sweater ideas? Where I could get some?
Or is it ridiculous for me to even thinking of putting clothing on my pitbull?

    *edit*
crap. I meant to post this in the "Anything" forums. Sorry.

I always put sweaters on my dachshund in the winter! it's not a silly idea at all, i would consider it for your ella, some just do it for decoration, but it can also be used for comfort as mine do!

I don't think it's silly at all.  It's just that it seems so much harder to find neat clothes for bigger dogs than it does for the little tiny ones. Max isn't a really huge dog, but he's very long from the nape of his neck to the start of his tail.  Even the XL is too short for him. [X(]

We live in the very cold northern NY.If my Dane is going to be out for more than 5 minutes we have to put her coat on or she shivers for an hour after she comes in! You think its hard to find a coat for a pit bull! try finding one in size 3xl.I see no problem with it at all! Its functional, not just for decoration.Coats in that size arent hard to find at all just measure from the nape of the neck to the top of the tail to get the right size.

Some dogs certainly feel the cold. We had a whippet cross for a while and she really seemed to appreciate the sweater we got her. My dog is a corgi, but she's getting old and more sensitive to the cold. Her feet and nose get cold. She has a blanket she can tuck her feet and nose into when it's chilly.

    thanks, guys.
Do you all know where I can get a nice sweater for her?
Even a hoodie for her would be great.
I want something kind of girly, but not TOO girly, you know?
    hahaha. I'm picky.

    Thanks a lot

I heard that if it is that cold, boots are a good idea.  Their little paddies get cold, too!

I like this coat... we got it for both of our dogs (we live in Northern NH and hike below zero)...

I made a coat for Tux because he freezes in the winter.  His fur is more like "spandex" than "fur".  I can't imagine it's terribly warm.  Westley does just fine in the cold - but Tux just stands there and shakes if he doesn't have his coat on.

Tux will also let himself be wrapped in a blanket when it's really cold.  He'll sleep under the covers all night!

Drs. Foster and Smith offer a dog hoodie. I remember seeing it on their website ([linkhttp://www.drsfostersmith.com]www.drsfostersmith.com[/link]) not too long ago, and it was pretty cute! They have some different sizes and colors as well. Just a suggestion, since you mentioned wanting a hoodie!

OMG! The Dr fosters and smith link that stef just gave has the cutiest hoodies for dogs![:D]

My greyhounds have rain coats, jackets and fleece sweaters with turtlenecks to keep their necks warm and I live in Southern California!  [:D]   I also got this really cool thing a grey owner near me makes called "cool coats" they are made of a terry material and you wet them and stick them in a baggie to take with you on long walks that might turn hot. You can even put them in the fridge or freezer if you don't plan to use them for many hours so that they have time to thaw. They keep your pup nice and cool if it gets too hot on the walk.  SO I definately don't think it is a stupid idea and especially not if you live in IL!

Not sure where to tell you to go for them though because I get all mine from sites that sell greyhound stuff and so many of these might not fit other breeds. If you do a websearch though for "greyhound sweaters (or jackets, raincoats. . . ) you will find a TON of great links. Some of these sites let you special order a certain size so this might be an option for you as many of these folks custom make them outr of tehir homes.  I especiallly like "snoods" which is for covering the neck and ears and you can buy these seperate or built into a sweater or jacket.

    Good luck!

I put Diego in sweaters when I first got him. He was 3.8 lbs and it was Jan. He hates them though!!! If I put one on him now he gets depressed and sulks. He even thinks he's car harness is "clothing".

So, I suggest making it a VERY possitive experience. Casey likes to wear stuff...she likes to get fussed over and for everyone to tell her she's a "suuuuuuuuch a preeettttttty guuurl".

I don't think it's silly at all! It's good for the short coated breeds too. And it's just sweet!
