    How to deal with...

a 100 pound dog with zoomies?!
Nightly Indy gets a severe case of the zoomies.  Butt-tucked, mouth open, blindly tearing round the house.  It only lasts for a couple of minutes, but I have to order the family to stand against a wall or seek refuge on a bed or couch, lest someone be bowled over by the beast.  Will he ever outgrow this?!

Our Loki used to do this daily as a puppy. Once he hit about 2, I stopped noticing him doing it as much. Every now and then, he'll tear around the house like a mad-man...maybe for old time's sake, but certainly not multiple times a day like before. I'm not sure how old your guy is, but from what I hear, after about the 2-year mark, you notice some maturing! Good luck!!

Sierra's almost 4 years and still does it quite frequently [&:]

Luckily for me though, she tends to hold it until we're outside... then she flies! And she has knocked me down once too. Took my legs right out from under me! Youch, did that hurt.

More exercise? Thats what I did with Bailey when he used to have them, he never does it anymore. Sometimes he will outside playing with sticks, but thats it.  I decided not to alow it anymore after Bailey almost went through one of the windows[&:]. Maybe try keeping them from getting excited in the house also.

When we have a stretch of ungodly weather that keeps us inside, Sally will get these.  She runs from the apartment door (gets traction from the rug) through the livingroom, into the bedroom and leaps on the bed--then she turns around and does it again--if she gets too excited she slams into the door....[sm=smack.gif]

I feel your pain! Luckily my guys are much smaller--combined they're about 120 lbs though. And they don't get the zoomies too often--every few days.

Last night I was in the living room and I heard a crash from outside. I looked into the backyard to see Loki and Odin running in circles as fast as possible around the whole yard. One of them hit a bench on the patio, but that didn't even slow them down.

I think it's really cute to watch. And they're getting some of their energy out!

I used to have a 7 ft. round rug in front of the china cabinet and Max would tear across the living room, land on the rug (which was on a wood floor) and ride it across the floor right under the dining room table. [:D] I got so tired of finding the rug all scrunched up under the table that I got an 8 ft. one and put part of it under the cabinet. He can still jiggle it around around, but he can't move it to a new place anymore.

How to deal with a 100 pound dog with zoomies?!

    DUCK! lol
He will outgrow it and you will miss it.

I love the zoomies!  They do cause issue, but I still love them and think theyre cute as heck.

Kayla was so crazy with it... she knocked me down a few times, she knocked herself on the wall pretty good a few times.  She ripped the couch (just a tiny spot).

Bailey ripped our duvet cover.  I dont know what she did but recently she was tearing around and we hear a thud and then crying.  She yelped and yelped, and ran right under my legs and kept yelping for a few minutes.  Scared the heck out of me I was so worried.  It stopped and she was fine.  I guess she banged herself good and scared herself.

I still love them, and I would definatly miss it if she didnt do it lol.

aww...I remember the days when Talus was 100 lbs......
I love when he does zoomies...all 140 lbs. of him.....

like deb, my advice is to watch your legs and enjoy it while it lasts...
I hope Talus never stops his zoomies....

Like Maria, we had a "zooming giant" when Tonka was young.  It was a riot, but if you didn't see him coming, you'd drop like a quarterback sacked by the legendary Reggie White!  Once we were with friends at a park, and Tonka and our friends' dog started doing zoomies.  Our friend was filming them with the video camera, and he didn't see Tonka clip him right behind the knees.  He hit the dirt instantly.  Luckily he was okay -- he's an attorney, and he would've had to sue his own friends for injuries!

The worst was after a bath -- that's when Tonka really zoomed around.  And as everyone has said, I really missed them when he became older and less agile.  Thinking of him doing that now makes me smile!

Marley still does zoomies. [:)] I love them. Marley gets zoomies after baths and in the evenings when I take her outside for "final wees". Shaq no longer does zoomies. He used to romp around the house when he was younger, but now an occasional game of chase in the yard is the best he will do. Enjoy them while they last!

LOL!  I guess a 100lb dog with the zoomies isn't that bad- I could have a Dogue or a Saint!!  A run-in with a 150- 200lb zoomish dog would feel like being hit by a truck!

Kye does this everyday.  He has turned our entire first floor into a race track.  It is funny to watch him, but I do notice that he is starting to wear the carpet where he turns the corners.  grrrrr

Ace is only 50 lbs, but that's still beg enough to do some damage . . .

I think the zoomies are hilarious.  I love to watch, and in fact I encourage them -- when he starts going I clap my hands and say "go zoom!" in a really excited voice, which gets him even more excited.  Then I just stand back and let him tear around.  I can't beleive how fast he can go, and how quickly he can corner and make u-turns!  Then when he's done I walk around and fold down all the throw rugs he's scrunched up in his wake.  Totally worth it.  I hope he never grows out of it.
