Soup bones are good and you can buy them in almost any meat section.  I agree, never, ever, give a dog something cooked.

Forgive my naivety, but why is it that you should never give a dog something cooked?

I mean, I understand the benefits of feeding something raw over something cooked, as a lot is lost nutrition wise in any cooking process, that they are naturally equipped to eat raw, etc...  but what is the actual problem with things that are cooked?

Does it splinter if its cooked or something along those lines?

Cooked bone will splinter and can cause some damage to the insides, they may also cause blockage because they are difficult to digest.  There is really nothing nutrition wise in cooked bone.  Raw bones do not splinter, they are more flexable and are easyer to digest.  Now raw bones will also contain the bone marrow wich is rich in nutrition.

Cooked bones can kill your dog. They splinter and can cut him up inside.

If your dog is a gulper I would always always always watch him even with raw bones. Raw bones have caused blockages in dogs who are gulpers. And many dogs ARE gulpers. Sofia is not, but I still watch her like a hawk.
