    The Guardian of the Food

My Irish Setter,Boots,  now gone for 9 years, had a unique way of seeing what I was doing when I was in the kitchen. The house we had at the time, the dining table was not far from the kitchen counters.  Boots had always backed up to sofa and sat down with front feet on floor, back legs dangling.  But he found he could get up in the chair closest to the counter, turn around and sit on the table and see what i was doing in that kitchen--fixing his food, fixing ours, maybe leaving something near the edge that he could snag when i wasn't looking.  My son managed to snap this picture--he would get down if I left kitchen to get camera and I didn't keep my good camera in kitchen.

[sm=lol.gif]  What a beautiful dog!  Was he that dark in RL, or is it the lighting?

When I'm cooking on the grill, Shadow will wait patiently. In this pic, I'm not cooking but it is reminiscent of him waiting.

Yes, he was dark  mahogany.  My first Irish, a lost dog that just showed up with no tags/collar, no ads in paper for him, was actually red and I called him Red.  He had been so well trained and loved i never could believe he was roaming and ended up in our yard, thin, scraggly, fleas and ticks, cut on hip.  When I had to have him PTS after having him 8 years,  I was so crushed and my oldest son's girlfriend had this puppy, Boots, shipped in from Missouri to Texas for me.
