Does this annoy you?

[:D][:D] I'd say "How about a nice big stuffed doggy to keep on the sofa?"

Hmm, yes that sounds good.  They do make certain breeds in lifesize stuffed.[:)]

Oh and I would also like a dog that does not lick their crotch. I do not want to be playing with a dog and they start to lick themselves then come and lick my face.

    Man, people bug me.

What about that link?? That way they can plug in all their criteria and find the right dog! [:D]

I checked it out. Most of the 67 dog breeds that met my criteria where designer breeds. Like bassodle and miniture labradoodle. Geesh[>:]

Sometimes those threads to get a little old, but the ones that are starting to really drive me nuts are the ones that start out "My dog has been puking and having bloody diarrhea for a week.  What's the matter with him? Do you think I should call a vet?" Ummmmm. If you had a kid that had these symptoms, would you not be running to a doctor?

Amen!  For some people you have to put it in those terms of 'if it was your child...'  I think that's the only time it sinks in.

That's hilarious because I tried that, and they couldn't match my criteria!
OH MY GOD. Maybe Ella isn't the right dog for me...

    Right.

Hey now! I started a thread about my Ella vomitting because of an antibiotic, but also called my vet first and Ella wasn't vomitting TONS. Just a few tablespoons here and there inconsistently.

Wait. Nevermind. Mine was a legit question that I seriously just wanted opinions and suggestions on. I try not to consult people here as though they are Vets. I usually contact my vet first for conditions as I mentioned above and THEN I come here to see if anyone has had something similar happen to their dog and ask what they did about it.

I agree that it is annoying the people are forever asking about "what breed is right for me?" and then they continue on with a seeminly unending list of criterion for their future doggy.

I do, however, comend them for doing their research before hand..... what would annoy us even more is someone saying "Instead of asking what breed is right for me, I went out and got a weim, and I can't believe how full of energy it is!  Someone please help, or its going to the shelter!"

I think instead of always going on and on about what dog is or isnt right for a particular person whenever they post, I vote for a "top" thread that always stays up that addresses this issue.  It should have a link to dogbreedinfo.com.  It should have suggestions to adopt, pros and cons of puppies vs. adults, information about breed specific rescues, what things are unrealistic, etc.
It should have a plethora of information.  I would be happy to make it, but right at this moment, I am on my way out.  If anyone has any ideas as to what the thread should contain, pm me, or reply here.

If this is not ok..... please let me know!

I agree with alieliza....so what is the big deal if they are searching for information?  Better then getting a dog they cannot handle and sending to the shelter or tying it outside for the remainderof its life.  Some people are clueless and need information on dogs and care and what breeds would be best for them and their lifestyle.  Heck I have learned alot here...but I also knew quite a bit before I got my dogs.  Having dogs is a learning experience and if people are asking for help and information we should help them.  Explain to them what they should expect and what is required as being a responsible dog owner instead of going off on them.  If you needed help would you want people jumping on you or would you want advice?

The only thing, firestorm, is when it gets excessive, and there is at least one person a week asking the same question.

This is why, IMO, there should be a "top" thread about this.

There are just soooo many queries I read that my very first thought is "get a cat" or "something stuffed".  Let's see they want a dog that isn't big but isn't small, doesn't shed, doesn't smell, is content to lay around the house 24/7 except for the hour or so a week that THEY want a doggie on a leash for a walk.....in short, they want a bald dog that doesn't require anything from them.  Oh, and will kill anyone who tries to break into the house or who raises a hand or voice towards the owner, but is expected to be friendly at the same time......

Yeah, it's good that they are researching first, but, I think that the expectations are really unreasonable.

I tried that and 10 of the 29 breeds it gave me were mixes.  All sorts of those doodle dogs.  Of course it also gave me "basenji".

Oh, geesh, Try working at a pet store. They think you're a free vet and then get really nasty with you when you don't know the answer. Or you recommend something that didn't work. Or worse yet, you know what the dog's problem is and the people won't do anything to fix it. Either they can't afford it, or it's just a dog, or worse yet, they're spoiling the dog dead. "We can't not give the dog his favorite snack that's making the dog vomit, cause you know that would just be cruel." Or "I wouldn't want to starve him by following the feeding instructions."

Here's one horror story. This lady came in with a very over wieght golden retriever that I would have sworn he was at least 10. He had cateracts, joint problems, coat problems, really brown teeth, and smelled.

The lady wanted a diet dog food that her dog would like. I asked her what she was feeding before - Purina Moist and Meaty you know, the play-do like stuff that comes in strips and is all different colors and loaded with sugar and salt. Even the package says great for training treats larger than it says dog food. I showed her how Moist and Meaty is not a good food and could be the cause of the skin and obesity problems. But she was not very attentive. I recommended Chicken Soup Senior, low in calories and by the way the dog acted and looked I thought it was old. The whole time I'm talking to the lady, she is distracted by everything. Other dogs, she'd pick up products on the shelf and while I was trying to explain to her why this food is good she kept interupting with unrelated questions. Then right in front of me, she picked up a handful of bulk treats and threw it on the floor for her dog to eat. Her dog gobbled them right up, so apparently he wasn't as picky as she said he was. Now we don't mind if you give the dog a sample, but a handful, right in front of me. Come on lady!

After all of this, she bought a box of Purina Moist and Meaty. Why did you even ask me if you weren't going to listen.

Then before she left, I over heard the cashier ask how old he was. She probably thought he was elderly too. He was 2[:o].

    People are wonderful.

Even though I have never posted to this question because I'm thinking that if they don't know, how am I, a complete cyber stranger going to help them.  I do have the problem of family, friends and co-workers thinking I have the greatest fur kids that they run out and get a dog thinking they are going to get ones like mine.  Then I'm stuck helping with the training and endless advise.
