Lady brag!

    Lady brag!

Just have to brag about Lady...yesterday she and I went for a looooong walk/run (I actually, finally, succeeded in wearing her out for the first time ever,) and while going around the neighborhood, we passed a couple and their 2 year old boy. The kid was VERY interested in petting her, and the parents asked me if it was OK (good sign!)

Now, Lady has never ever shown any people aggression that I know of, BUT her fact file at the humane society said she was scared of babies/small kids. So, I told the parents that I *thought* it would be OK, but that they should go slow and I would keep her close to me just in case she wasn't going for it. Lady went trotting right up to this kid, and his parents, without any hesitation. I told her to sit and she did. The little boy held out his hand, (his folks told me they were teaching him to always "introduce" himself to a dog,) and Lady, as usual, did the "Uh huh, OK, I don't care about smelling you, JUST PET ME!" [:D]

She let all three of them pet her and she KISSED this little boy on his face! He started crying when his parents finally had to take him away! They were like, "This is a great dog, what kind is she?" and I of course said, "She's a Humane Society Mutt. They have TONS of good dogs like her at shelters, but I don't know what kind she is." I swear, I really AM starting to feel like a shelter commercial! [;)]

GOOD JOB LADY!!!  It is so great to hear success stories about HS dogs.  Keep up the good work! [:D]

That's really something to brag about!  Perhaps you could look into taking her to nursing homes.  My boys love going; sounds like Lady would too.

I don't know who is luckier - you for getting her, or her for getting you.

Great to see the parents teaching the child to respect the dog. Works well.

Yeah, it was really good to see that they were being responsible parents and teaching the boy to be gentle, etc.

I think Lady would probably be a good "hospital/nursing home" dog. She is SO, so laid back. She never barks (!). She's never shown her teeth, even when she's "growling" (when she gets scared of a strange dog coming up to her, she's never growled at people that I know of.) She's good for *my* blood pressure, at least. [;)] Maybe we should consider that.

Lady says thank you for the kind words! [:D]

She sounds like such a good dog. It's wonderful that you found her and now are able to spread the word about adopting from a shelter. I'll bet you're saving so many lives just by talking up "shelter dogs".
