    YUCK!!! Any suggestions?

This is GROSS but I need advice if there is anything I can do to prevent this from EVER happening again!  I went grocery shopping & left 2 dogs & 2 cats inside due to the heat.  I came home to find my GSDS got into the cat's litter box & was eating a piece of cat poop - YUCK!!!!  Crying
Any ideas why he would do this?  If he tries this again, how can I prevent it??
Please help, I don't want him make this a habit.

Put the litterbox up where they cant reach it.

The only suggestion I have is to put a baby gate up to seperate him from it and maybe cut a small hole in it big enough for the cat. G'Luck:)

thanks, that worked for my GSDS/Rott when she tried it
the cat's box is now on the counter, so I thought I wouldn't have to worry with the GSDS, but the smart-allek somehow got into it [:@]

I agree with the whole baby gate thing except when you put the baby gate up make sure you have enough room for the cat to slip under the gate. It worked for Blue and now he doesn't even try to get in the litter box now. Also maybe sprinkle some hot sauce on the poop in the box if you don't put the gate up. Usually they don't like the taste can't say it works for all.[;)]

I use a covered litterbox with a door, because Eevee LOOOOOVES "nestle crunch" lmfao...  I have it in a corner turned toward the wall, with only enough room for the cat to slip in.

My brother in law took the door off a closet and cut off the top to make it like a dutch door.  Then he took off about three inches at the bottom.  The litter box went on the floor.  Problem solved.  You could always buy a replacement door if the house was to be sold later.

First of all you have beautiful dogs. Ok now on to the poop. I keep mine in a room where Sara can not get to it it has a kitty door for the cat to get in but sara can not fit through.

I also wanted to say that your pups are adorable!

And I keep the litterbox in an extra bathroom with a baby gate up. My cat can jump over and I'm sure the dogs could too, but they don't.

Why do GSD's do this, then again why do they all do this?

Baby's litter box is in the closet on the floor.  It has a sliding door so I have a baby gate raised enough for the kitty to get under it but Madi can not.  This gives her privacy and Madi away from the poop treats.

Baby's food is up on top of the kitchen table surrounded by chairs.  Only sad thing is that baby can not jump very far so we have a box next to a chair and then a booster on the chair from there baby can get up on the table. She is 15 we will do anything for her!

I have also put a string of bells on the door next to the litter box, I always know if Madi is trying to get into the poo and the sound bothers her.  Madi is 8 now so the poo treats are really not a problem but this worked great when she was younger. Just an idea.

Thank you all for the great suggestions, I bought a baby gate today, we'll start there.  If that doesn't work, we'll move on.  I had to remove the door from the litter box, the cats wouldn't go in, but I did leave the cover on.  I thought that would be enough to keep the dogs out, well........
Dasher - love your kitty entrance, if the baby gate doesn't work, I think I'll have my husband build one of those.
Thanks to all for the compliments!
