    I am so proud

I was just outside with Charlie and he was playing with Shadow next door (1 year old daschund).  We were sitting on the front lawn with the dogs leashed and someone was coming down the sidewalk with a black lab.  Shadow started going ballistic, barking jumping up and down, pulling on the leash etc. and his owner couldn't really get him calmed down.  I simply said, "Charlie sit, Charlie stay" and he did the entire time until the lab passed!!!  I was so excited.  Shadow's owner was so impressed and so was I.

Sorry, but I just had to tell someone and DH isn't home!

Hello everyone, what a lovely spot I found here.  My doggie's name is Dave.  He is a chow-akida mix.  13 years old, bad hips, I have him on Rimadyl.  He has ramps to go outside.  He is still able to do that, but no walks. He is past that point.

I keep him comfortable and spend long long periods of time on the floor just being near him.  One night I slept on the floor with him, recently.  I was concerned he would follow me into the bedroom to be there, and I didn't want him trying that night.  I love my boy.  We have lived in a total of 17 different apartments/houses together.  He has been with me since an old roommate of mine sprung him from the pound as a surprise for me.

So I am doing all I can for him, but I have a concern.  He recently lost his bark.  He became hoarse, and then it was gone.  I feel so bad when he tries, and I wonder if this could be due to something that I could get treated?  He has the mucus in his eye corners too, and I don't know, is that just age, you guys?  Is there something that could help him get his bark back?  Sort of a "dignity" thing for him, I think. He still looks at me when he tries to bark like he doesn't get why there's no sound.
Any thoughts, anyone?  Thank you.  Love to your dogs!!!

Good for you! It's so impressive, having a well behaved dog, isn't it? Especially when they're standing next to a dog who's not as well behaved. : )

Glad to hear your hard work is paying off!

Hi Dawn & welcome to the board.  I don't know what to tell you about Dave (great name BTW).  You might get a better response if you made your own thread.  I know that my old girl got hoarse as she aged.  I just thought it was just an old age thing.  I could be wrong & uninformed.

Thanks, yes I am very excited.  Charlie is gets so excited when ever he sees another dog, person, anything and for him to just sit there you could tell he was just dying inside, but he did it.  Thanks for the accoilades!!!
