Take him/her in or not?

    Take him/her in or not?

My neighbor has found a kitten and was wondering if we would take him/her? There are tons of stray cats in our neighborhood, so this does not surprise me that a kitten was found. I usually leave out water and some food for the strays that come into our yard. My neighbor's wife and son are allergic, so they cannot have any pets. I took this kitten and put him/her into a pet carrier, and gave him/her some food, water and a litter box. He/she is in a cool area away from my other cats. I have an appt. to take him/her to the vet this afternoon once DH returns.

What do I do with this kitten after the vet? If he/she is free from disease, do we keep the kitten? We have the 2 dogs and our 2 cats. Trinity and Hayley only have been vaccinated for Rabies. They are strictly indoor cats. This is why I have the kitten away from them and I being very cautious of handling the kitten. She does look healthy but we all know that looking healthy does not mean much with some diseases. I do not know how the cats will react to having a kitten in the house. I haven't had to litter train a kitten in years. Hayley and Trinity were both adopted as young cats. Trinity was adopted in May. Hay is still getting used to having Trin around. We have the room to keep a kitten. We have the toys, cat tree, cat beds, food and love too.  This is a life-time commitment though. Thank you everyone ahead of time for the advice.

if you have the room in your house for another cat, and everyone in the family wants another cat... i say take him in. chances are your other cats will clue him in on using the litter box, so i wouldnt worry too much about that.

we took in a cat in this same manner about 6 yrs ago.she showed up on our doorstep in the middle of the night and has been with us since.

i would say that if you are going to keep him, please get him neutered. [:D]

If this kitten is safe to be with my others and we do keep it, it will definitely be spayed or neutered no matter what!!

When I was a child, cats were adopted into our home much the same way as this one. My father says that we do not go looking for cats. They come looking for us.

I wanted to add that all of our pets are spayed. I deeply believe in spaying or neutering a pet.
