Its our Obligation (a little rant)

Ive been looking at some pit bull movies and just thinking about the day to day stuff I see all over. People who think its ok to chain their dog up all day, with dirty water and give it no attention and love. People who have a dog and dont allow themselves to love it. Who say a dog doesnt 'deserve' love because they are our animals and we are free to do whatever we want with them.

We domesticated the wolf thousands of years ago. We ASKED for them to join us in our lives, took them out of the wild and bred them to look and act a certain way. We humans are responsible for altering them so much, so we have our Chihuahuas, Great Danes and other breeds of today.

If WE were the ones that brought them into our lives, it is our obligation to make their lives as comfortable as possible. These dogs are our responsibility, they cannot survive in our world, on their own.

We NEED to give them a warm bed, a good meal each day, and a big helping of love each and every day. It is our obligation to pamper and love them, like they are children, because just like our sons and daughters did not ask to be brought into this world, our dogs did not ask to be here. They did not ask for you to buy them.

If you cant dedicate yourself to your pet to the fullest you really shouldnt be owning a dog. We are guilty of bringing them into our world, so why do they have to cater to us?

Sorry for the long rant, just had to get this off my chest [:(]

You're absolutely right. They're our responsibility and people just aren't taking that responsibility seriously.

I know what you mean and I alway try to explain it like this.  Dog are domesticated, breed to be depent on humans.  Once an animal is domesticated it can never be re-intoduced into the wild.  Think about it, dog and cats who live without human companions live and scaveng off of humans.  They eat our trash, invade our homes, they could not live in the wild so they follow us around and pick from our scraps.

Yes we did breed some to guard our homes but how does that work when they are chained to a post their who life?  I feel safer with a dog sleeping by my side then one outside far from anything thats important.  They guid our food around, hearding the cattle and other livestock so that we may have food to survie on.  They hunt our food for use and help use catch it.  They become our friends, our family, they need us and we need them.  It all works together so why punish something that only wants to please you.

    Very well said.
Xebby, I absolutely agree that I feel much safer with my dogs in the house to protect me, rather than out on a chain. Heck, on a chain, if someone went out of their range, they could get past the dogs and into the house. With the dogs inside the house, I don't think anyone is coming in uninvited.
