Dog business of mine

    Dog business of mine

Hi! My name's Sandra, this is my first post. This is actually my older sister's account, but she said I could use it if I wanted to.

My sister has two horses, and in the barn there is an extra space that could used for kennels. I love dogs so much and I know a lot about them. I want to get some stuff on my resume for future 'dog jobs', but I am not 16 so I can't volunteer at my local shelters without parent supervision or get a job at PetSmart or anything. But my mum is willing to allow me to have a small little dog business of my own, but I can't really walk places by myself (and my mum doesn't want to spend time after school walking dogs or driving me to houses for pet sitting).
So I was hoping that somebody might have some ideas/tips for me. I do have that space for, mmm, maybe 5 kennels. I was thinking of going to shelters and adopting some of the dogs who are about to be euthanised, but now I'm thinking maybe not...as I think about the pros and cons (the pro def being how great it would be to do such a thing for those poor dogs). I was thinking, maybe I could have like a temporary board dog place? Or...is there anything else, lol?

Thanks, I hope some people have some ideas.

Well, I've got a couple of ideas.

If you have a fenced yard you could do in home pet sitting, where the dog stays with you while it's owners are away.  The fence would make it easy because you wouldn't necessarily have to walk them.

Or, I know I worked at an animal hospital when I was 16 or 17 or so.  I helped the techs exercise the dogs, feed, cleaned up.  I also eventually learned to help hold the dogs for x-ray and other things.  And, then even later I helped in surgeries.  That might be something you could look into then it might develop into a more permanant job later on.

    Thanks, willowchow!
I really like the idea of doing an in home pet sitting. Do I need a business permit since its a business on my house? My mum thought I might.

Well, I'm in the US so I think you might want to check into it for Canada.

Which province do you live in? if you're atleast 15 you should be able to get a job at a petstore..

Whereas starting a business is concerned, even though I'm not sure if youre in alberta or not, (but this is in my favourites so it's easy to reach [8D]) but this may help you in some aspects.
