    flea and tick products

    Hi,

I was curious on what people use as far as monthly flea and tick products? Is frontline best? What about Hartz brand you can get at Target/Walmart?

Frontline is great.   I use Revolution, which I know is not as effective on larger dogs, but my vet uses it and I trust him.    Do not use Hartz!   I'm sure someone else will tell you about it in more detail, but I made the huge mistake of purchasing it once when I didn't know anything about it and I thought my cat was going to die.    It burned his skin and made him act completely crazy.

There were a lot of bad results with Hartz.  Pleeeez don't put it on those two beauties.  I've been meaning to tell you they are gorgeous since I first saw them.[:)]
My girl also has a long thick coat and I've had great results with Frontline Plus.  It's well worth the money.

Here's the link about Hartz and their issues--

one of my favorite things to do in the store is to stop people who are contemplating buying the Hartz flea/tick products and warn them that pets have died from that crap.
Everyone I've stopped has been grateful.
Spend a little more and get something safe and effective.

I've been using Hartz for years with no ill effects on Casey. I decided to do a little reseach...and find out what people thought about it.  I don't want to hurt my babies!

I used Program (when it was popular) and Frontline. Hartz was so much more affortable. Of course I'll make the switch though...if it's safer.

Thank you willowchow for your compliment. I've never seen a blue chow before...she's gorgeous![;)]

Hartz burned my dog's skin as well. It was so painful for her that she cried every few minutes. I had to give her a bath with dish detergant to get it off of her skin. I definately don't trust anything that Hartz makes[:'(]

I've used Frontline Plus on my 2 babies.  I need a waterproof product as my dogs are ALWAYS in the pond!

Someone told me that Bio-Spot was good.  Anyone have any opinions about Bio-Spot?? I'm looking for something less irritating than Revolution for my cats, it burned them & left bald spots at application site, so it's not for my cats.

Someone told me that Bio-Spot did dittly-squat for a pretty severe flea infestation that her dog had. It was in her apartment (in the floor boards, ect..). She couldn't get rid of the fleas...

I think I'm going to try Frontline Plus. Ticks are a problem here in MA and I'm concerned about Lyme disease too. Even my vet's dog has it.

Kian is frontlined without a dought!!

When we had him he had such a bad skin disorder he will have forever now, becoz his previous owners did'nt give a shit, he was ridled with flea's & they were eating him alive!!!

    So he is frontlined.

Since we just moved into our first house, Bruno is absoloutly addicted to the large backyard. Naturally he got fleas after the first few days. I use Sentry; Natural Defense against fleas and ticks. It works and smells great, its also supposed to be a natural product.

Just a reminder folks, there are more appropriate word choices than SHIT to use on a public forum.

If your dog has a serious skin conditon from fleas, it does NOT have to be a lifelong problem.  I've seen dogs with SERIOUS flea allergies and with time, treatment and an excellent quality food, the skin comes around.

I use Frontline on my Maltese, and USUALLY use K9 Advantix on my big dogs.

I made the mistake of ordering Advantage for the big boys the last time. Advantage is for fleas only. Now I am plucking off big juicy ticks.

We live in the South, so fleas and ticks are numerous here.  Since we started using Frontline Plus on Dakota over a year ago, we haven't found a single flea or tick on him.  We find them on us, but not on Dakota.   I also like that Frontline Plus is waterproof.

I kept digging and a friend emailed me an interesting message.  Please check this out, I found it ?????(at a loss for words) [linkhttp://www.elversonpuzzle.com/biospot.html]http://www.elversonpuzzle.com/biospot.html[/link]

Thank you all for the input, I've decided to stick with with Frontline Plus for all my pets.  It works well on my dogs, I'll switch from the Revolution to the Frontline for my cats.

Yes, I didn't add that even though our cats are strictly indoor cats, we also use Frontline Plus on them in case a flea hops a ride on us and gets indoors.

When I first took Dakota to our vet, I asked her about BioSpot.  It seemed like it would be a great product since it would kill and repel so many different insects.  But my vet was real quick to tell me that many animals had had bad reactions to it.  She said something about the wrong doses being put in the wrong packages so little dogs were receiving the amount that big dogs should have gotten.
