    St.Bernards

I have ALWAYS wanted one and recently someone told me they are no good with kids. I have always planned once we get our farm to get one as a pup. But now everyone has me afraid to get one because they say they have no tollerence for small children. Is this so?

Oh my gosh.  It is more the minority that aren't good with children.  I grew up with Saints since I was four and my sister was two.  We crawled and jumped all over our first, we slept on her, she took it all and came back for more.  Our later dogs were just as tolerant.  It is true that every breed can have aggressive dogs, but Saints are definitely dogs that are less aggressive as a rule.  I can't rave enough about this breed!  They are big, though, and can sometimes seem like they're throwing their weight around, which can be scary to small children who aren't used to them, but here's a picture of my 17 month old with our friend's dog.  This picture was taken at a dog fair where hundreds upon hundreds of people came through to pet the dogs with our club.  This was Opie's (the dog) demeanor the entire day--although he did look with some interest at the Greyhounds/Italian Greyhounds in the booth next door.

I have found Saints to be wonderful with children!  As a breed, i would say they are better with kids than most other.

My parents got us a Saint when I was four and my brother was five. We had three over the years and they were all very good with children.
