~treats~

Mine love all sorts of stuff. Lately, I've not had time to make treats (I have a few doggy cookbooks full!), so I've been buying Canz Real Meat jerky treats.

Romeo gets any of the treats by Bravo, loves Merrick Porky Jerky Pumpers (dehydrated pork heart) Snackfish and his very special treat for when he has been really good, or maybe gone to the vet: raw cow hooves stuffed w/green tripe. aaawww such wonderful aroma. [:D]

Zuke's Jerky Naturals, Zuke's Mini Naturals, liver treats, Healthy Paws beef jerky, Fromm's cheese treats (they get crumbly, though).    She also loved the terrible cat treats my mother in law bought for my cat.

    Zukes (soft treats)

    Canidae Snap Biscuits

    Avo Derm Kookies

Nathan's Coney Island Hot Dogs now makes dog treats - wow does my dog like those.  No by products or colorings, but sugar.

He also really like Old Mother Hubbard Couch Potato Treats.  That's the only flavor of OMH he likes, but he can't have too many of them because he gets ear infections from wheat.

The same with Sportsmix Golden Jumbo Biscuits, likes them, but can't have too many.

Sofia gets raw turkey meat for the recall training.

Pupperonis (yes but the have a strong scent and it's very motivating)

and of the healthy sort... Yummy Chummies!

They do NOT contain bad ingredients. It looks like they finally updated their website to reflect that.

    Liver treats. Much like Glenda's.
I alternate between chicken or beef liver, the garlic, oats which I  grind up to make  into flour form, sometimes i will add some extra whole wheat flour, and i will  add some veggie into the mix,  grated carrot or zucchini or something along those lines. I  googled liver treats read over a few recipes then just add libbed. No written recipe much like how i cook for ourselves a bit of this and a bit of that... then I slow baked them for several hours at a low temp to make them a little crunchier.

I also slice liver finely and dry it out on a cookie sheet.

I have bought some storebought treats ( And have used salmon flavoured cat treats .They are small and easy to use for training) But i prefer making her treats.. They are much more cost effective, you can control the size by cutting them into tid bit size, and no funky ingredients.

I made a huge batch and divided them for people at the dog club. There is a lab who didn't like any treat his dad tried to use when training.. he'd turn his head and couldn't be bothered. I asked if i could give him a liver treat. OMG you could see the light go off! YUM!! His nose was in hot pursuit of my pocket.
I ended up making treat bags to give to a few of the dogs. Big, big hit :)

Sally has to have wheat free, so anything yummy looking/smelly is what we go for.  Today for our walk we are using raost beef for "watch me's" and "leave it" because for Sally those are the HARDEST commands on earth.

...cut with a pizza wheel when totally cooled and return to the baking sheet to freeze, then bag them up.

So, they need to stay frozen all the time?  (sorry for my ignorance)

Packaged treats:  Newman's Own Peanut butter treats or the chicken ones

Unpackaged:  hot dog bites, cheese, or small pieces of apple or melon

He likes any and all food, I think! [:D]

For training treats I buy chicken cutlets and cut them up in very small bite size.  Fry them in extra virgin olive oil with lots and lots of garlic powder.  The more garlic the better.    I put them in little zip lock bags and freeze them until ready to use.   I can get the dogs to do just about anything with those treats.   I did notice one down fall though,  when I use garlic for human cooking I have a kitchen full of dogs.

    I use [linkhttp://www.sammysnacks.com]Sammy Snacks[/link].

They come in carob chip, cran oat, peanut butter and cheese.

They are for people and pets to eat.  My favorite is cran oat, so that's what my dogs end up with mostly.  :-)  My dogs will do practically anything for them.
