On this other forum I frequent, there is this guy who advertises his services as a dog trainer. But there's something wrong with his posts. Here are a couple:
Advice to two people whose dogs bite:
Hit your dog on the snout; use enough force but not too hard. When you hit it, you should hear a scream from the dog. Hitting to correct is different from abusing your dog. The dog will know if you are a good or bad master even if you hit him. Like with kids, they know they made a mistake and you spank them because you want to correct them.
Advice to someone whose Golden was acting stubborn and bites:
The easiest way to correct your dog is to say "No!" then hit its snout. Your Golden has a behavior problem. Goldens do not normally bite. That's why they are a play dog because they have no drive to bite. Try getting a new dog instead, be sure it is from a reputable breeder. It's a problem with your dog's breeding. But if the dog has endeared himself to you despite the biting, hit the snout and say "No!" when it bites. Just a slight hit with a little pain. That's what I did to my dogs.
Some odd comments:
Hot sauce is bad for dogs because it destroys their sniffing power. It induces strokes in dogs, like chocolates.
Is this guy for real? Is he just a horribly old-fashioned trainer -- or an amateur pretending to be one? I'm quite worried. He's very generous with the phrase "behavioral problem" (ie apparently play-biting and dominance [not aggression due to dominance] are behavioral problems) and gives out a LOT of advice -- and some people believe him and have followed his advice! (Of course, I have contradicted everything he's been saying, but it's frustrating.

I couldn't believe he told that poster to "find a new dog"!)
