What Would You Say About This to the Management?

When I'm home, my pitbull is ALWAYS with me unless she is crated.  I monitor her around my children, I supervise their play.  I have educated (and continue educating) my children on how to interact with her properly.  They are not allowed in her face to mess with her face and they are not allowed to play tease her.  I work with them and her on giving her commands and she is to follow their commands.  I walk her daily and work with her if other people approach us.  I am continuing her obedience training next month (when I have the money to get her with a trainer that I have picked) and work with the training she has already received.  She is around my children when they fight, argue, play (when they're JUST being little boys) and I watch EVER so closely.  She is non-reactive.  If it becomes too loud for her she leaves the room.  She lays on the couch with them, she obeys them.

I know it's already been said, but pitbulls were never bred to be human aggressive.  NEVER.  They were bred to be the exact opposite because their handlers were to be in pits with them and were to be able to pull their dog off of another dog during a fight.  Any dog that showed signs of being aggressive were either put down or fixed and pulled to never fight again.
So, here's an idea, why don't we, instead of banning a breed or discriminating against it, scan owners before they're allowed to own?  That to me is a better answer than eliminating an entire breed.

So, what do you want us pitbull owners/lovers to admit?  That a pitbull is more likely to attack people than any other breed?  Simply not true.
That a pitbull's bite is more dangerous than that of any other dog and they have more potential to injure someone than any other dog?  Well, I don't know, but if a Newfie, a giant schnauzer or any other "completely innocent" breed were to attack and bite down, I'm thinking the damage is going to be just as bad.

I think I am spent for the day on this subject.
My dog's a LOVAH not a fighter, and that's good enough for me.
He has NOTHING new to say for whatever point he's trying to make, so I think it's break time![:D]

Yep! And he sure did that day beating the #7 dog in the country like he did when we were in VA...

Of course I am always looking for an excuse to post pictures of my dogs...LOL!

NOT THAT LADY!!!!! That is non other then Mrs. James Edward Clark...Annie to her friends. She is one of the most respected women in the dog show world and would be able to handle her own with any dog, any size, any temperament.

I have a story from my early show days regarding her...this day shown was my personal accomplishment from 12 years ago, my third time in the ring....they say everything comes full circle, this is living proff it does. Same show 12 years latter and I got breed!!

Some day, I would love to have an Amstaff/APBT. As long as I don't live in Denver County... all of Denver's surrounding counties (which might I add are a lot nicer anyway) allow pits. My only concern is home owner's insurance as I know nothing about the different ones but that many are A-holes about certain breeds...

Focus like a laser beam: Is a Pit Bull more likely or less likely to violently kill an innocent individual than a traditionally tame breed?

I find your continual use of boldface rather rude - it isn't necessary to scream, which is what you seem to be doing, since your arguments clearly don't hold any water from a behavioral standpoint.  All dogs have weapons in their mouths, and most fatal dog attacks are the result of human misunderstanding of how to properly breed, train, and manage their dogs, no matter the breed.  There is a documented case of a Pomeranian killing a young child, and I personally know a groomer who has successfully groomed Rotts and Pits for years - the only dog that ever sent her to the ER was an eight year old Golden Retriever.  You are jumping on the mass hysteria bandwagon, but do not seem to have any idea that such idiocy would also force the Pits and AmStaffs that do therapy work to wear muzzles in public!
The only way you will ever reduce the number of attacks perpetrated by any breed is to educate and legislate for *human* compliance with standards of responsible ownership.

P.S. Here's a couple of nice Aussie smiles for ya. [:D][:D]
Oops, forgot to mention that when Aussies bite, they do let go.  After they give you the famous herdin' dog multiple-up-the-arm-bites. [:D]
Think we should ban S&S, Jaime?  Or, maybe make them wear muzzles to the nursing home.  Hmm, or let them guard my stash of chocolate??? Yup, that's it. [8D][:D][8|]

Although PETER is the most closed minded, fact ignoring, repetative person Ive seen in a long while I will respond.

You seem 100% NOT willing to listen to anyone other than the MEDIA, "Here's your sign."

Why are you here arguing when we provide you with REAL, yes, REAL accounts and experiences... along with lots of facts and statistics that ANY dog is dangerous.  That YES, there you go YES, pits are dangerous in the wrong hands but so is ANY ANY ANY ANY dog.  Why might pits be more common in this issue, because they are being freaking bred like rabbits by IDIOTS.  Why suddenly is the breed bad and not the IDIOTS breeding them?

As was mentioned earlier, there are other dogs bred to fight.  So lets just say one day pit bulls were completely banned and there were no more.  The people who were breeding them to fight illegally and all that will find another breed to do it with.  The streets will flood with a new dog bred beaten and abused for their own monetary and amusement puposes.  Then THAT breed will be in the new... OMG the (insert breed here)s are DANGEROUS... ooo we must ban them.  When does it stop?  When you may ask... when they go after the REAL problem.  Thats when.

In the meantime, we do not need people like you who are obviously brain washed to go around spreading the idiocy that you choose to believe.  If you get sucked into the hype so be it, but just know that there are other who dont.  Most of those who dont are the ones who actually have the dog...  notice a trend here?  Seems to me like too many people who have no personal experience or knowledge about them are the ones flapping their lips to no end.

Sheprano... you should post video links.  Not that he will care... but it does provide a lot of pictures of them with children and stuff.

Actually according to breed standard they are close to the BEST breed to have around kids and the MOST loyal.  In my opinion, MOST LOYAL means they WONT "turn on you".

OMG, I dont own a pit either but this gets me so worked up.  Its so unfair and frustrating.

We are upset because we know better.  You refuse to listen you continue to post the same thing over and over and refuse to absorb any new info and for that I am sorry for you.  I just hope one day you see the truth.

    * At the shelter I worked at the pit, about 2 years old who spent his life there (he was a pure pit puppy found beaten) was the LOVE of the place.  I felt bad for the other dogs because he got to run free all the time and the rest had to take turns.  He never fought with a dog there, ever... new ones coming in all the time and was always fine.  He was attacked by a mix breed there and did not fight back.  Only a small cut.  Um, which of those dogs do you think got adpoted out of there, the pit or the one who attacked it...?[8|]

ETA:  I know I sound angry with you, and Im not.  I just get very upset with this sort of thing.  Im angry at your views, at the media....  I hope that being around here has in some way improved your opinion on this wonderful breed.

OMG [sm=eek.gif] I had better run to the vet and put my 2 Shiba Inu down only about 60% pass temperment testing, if over 80% of pits and over 80% of amstaffs manage to pass ant they are all ticking time bombs, then my Shibas must be plotting for the night they can attack me on the couch.[sm=proud.gif]

Anyhow to that matter at hand.

When people who are less dog sauvey see a dog attack that has really short hair and is smaller than say a great dane they all yell PITBULL.  When in actuallity there are several breeds mistaken for pits.  Bully breed crosses, Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, American Stafordshire Terriers, Stafordshire Bull Terrier, Boxers, Olde English Bulldog, Alapaha Blue Blood Bolldog, Bull Terrier and Bull Mastiff just to name a few.  That is ten breeds there alone, all with their own breed standards and all pretty popular, I left out the rarer breeds such as Fila, Presas and Cane Corsos.  Now when they start lumping all the herding breeds into one group and adding up dog bites and putting them all on the German Shepherd because it's easier then I am sure some will have huge issues with this.  But while it is easy to pick on the pits the media will continue to do so.

Also if a pit lab cross bites someone, why is it suddenly a pit cross but at the shelter it is a lab cross???

If anybody noticed, the OP said he has a miniature schnauzer, of which only about 78% of those passed temperament testing.

    How 'bout them coconuts?

I am just puzzled as to why someone who hates certain dogs so much would bother joining a dog forum.[8|]
