These puppies probably had a pretty sad life to begin with and it's horrible that they had to die this way.

Well said. How awful for those poor puppies![:(]

According to that article the pups were shipped from the Hunte Company. I've mentioned large puppy brokers in other posts. Hunte is one of the largest if not the largest. They boast of a new facility that is over 10,000 feet (which also houses their kennel manufacturing area).

This broker advertises every breed of dog for sale. They come from the legal puppy mills I've also mentioned before. (Although these puppy mills are legal, on the odd occasions when they are inspected many are in violation of the rules. When this happens they are given time to fix the problem before any action is taken).

Hunte has vets and groomers on site (a vet on call is required for a USDA license. In my case I'd use Doctor Dan the traveling vet - not because he is of any use but because he would do it and fill out the right forms.) It appears (from what I've heard) that they cull the visably sick pups, clean up the rest and ship them out.

They have a very nice web site (which gives me the willies given what I know about them). [linkhttp://www.thehuntecorporation.com/]http://www.thehuntecorporation.com/[/link]

But, GOD! This just ticks me off!
Here this Andrew guy is making a buck off of mass producing puppies and there are THOUSANDS of shelters, kill facilities, and REPUTABLE breeders (who LOVE their breed) with available puppies and dogs. Reputable breeders that do REAL health testing and have REAL certificates of health and guarantee their pups for up to a year (sometimes two!).

And this a$$ is making a profit.

If I'm wrong, please correct me, but I don't care what kind of "nice doggie" promises he makes, if they (like you say) are breaking regulations and fixing things "just in time", then that's nasty. It's SOOO many things and it enrages me!

This puppy mill problem is a topic of discussion with all my "doggy" friends.  I am a past exhibitor in obedience/agility and teach family pet manners.  The problem right now doesn't have a solution as where can the average person look at a bunch of different breeds and pick out the one that appeals to them?  Going to dog shows is not something the average person does - getting a copy of Dog World and reading kennel ads is not something the average person does.  So, if the want a Papillon - they don't know where to find one (so they think) and they go off to a pet store or check out an ad in the local paper and get one from someone not concerned with the betterment of the breed, but in making $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Perhaps we (breeders/exhibitors, etc.) need to come up with a solution - find a way to educate people on where to find the puppy of their dreams IMHO
