    Guess The Breed!

    Hello,
I'm new to the forum, and I thought I'd jump in by asking a question.

Sassy is a dog that I have been fostering, and I'll soon be adopting (that's a story for another post!). We suspect she is an Australian Shepherd mix, but I would really like to figure out what else might be mixed in. Below are some pics of her, if anyone wants to take a guess! She's about 35-40 ;pounds (I'm guessing), around two years old, and she has some black spots on her pink tongue. Her fur has kind of a brindle pattern, that might not show up well in the pictures.

    Thanks!
    Kristine

Beautiful dog! Unfortunatly I can't tell you a thing about it's breed. It does look like an aussie mix to me, but that is all I can tell, lol.

She's pretty! I'm not a good one for guessing breeds, but I think others will be coming along soon. She looks like a keeper to me. [;)]

Well brindle does not occur in the Aussie breed...and since brindle is a dominant trait we can assume one parent was either brindle, or brindle factored...such as a white dog carrying brindle. Aussies are also rarely "self" colored...meaning that the color is not broken by white...

Brindle, esp self colored brindle with minimal to no white, is seen most often in the mastiff or bully breeds, sighthounds, or some types of hunting dog. The herding breeds I have seen in brindle are the Cardigan Welsh corgi, and the Dutch Shepherd, along with the Bouvier and Briard, all quite rare to see running around loose or poorly cared for/supervised.

I'd say that one of the parent dogs was likely a mix themselves...and brindle...I would say one parent Chow x pit....and the other possibly some sort of BC/herding mix. Her weight is right in that middle range common to 'second generation' mixes...rarely do they exceed 45lbs.

I'd doubt she is a first gen mix (meaning X mixed with X) just based on the apparent traits..long coat, brindle color, self color, semi prick ears, non extreme body type, etc, that could only come about with a good genetic "cocktail" of many breeds. Cute dog!

There are a lot of people on this board who are great at dog breeds and I'm sure they'll be along soon.

But I just had to say that she is absolutely gorgeous. I'd love to see more pictures of both of your dogs and hear their stories.

I was curious about Sophie too. I'd love to see more pictures of both dogs! They sure look like cute girls. [:)]

I don't know what Sassy is except being a cutie. Please post some pictures of Sophie.

Hi and welcome to the board.

Loki's mom, don't you think she looks a bit elkhoundie in the face? That would help account for the size, as well.

    She's way cute and beautiful!

I can definitely see elkhound in her eyes and nose. I thought it was just me, so I didn't say anything--I tend to see Elkhounds everywhere.[;)]
I've never seen a dog like her before though--she's beautiful!

Black spots on tongue doesn't that lead to some Chow somewhere in the line.  She is beautiful .

I think she's probably a mix of a mix.... nothing wrong with that! [:)] She just doesn't really resemble any specific breed.
