Well my wife just spoke to the vet and the vet said he made it through the night but he is 99.9% sure he has parvo.  This is a little distressing because the vet was 99.9% sure he didn't have it two days ago.  Tito is weak but still waggin his tail and they are going to keep him for a few days to build his strength back up and get him vaccinated.  He said he was impressed with tito and that he is a fighter.  Just wanted to give you guys an update on his status.

Good thoughts coming from all of us for Tito. Hang in there little one.

    Edited  for some comments/questions.

Did the vet conduct specific tests to know whether it was parvo or not ? It really is one of those "have to know for sure" diseases.

I am a bit concerned about the fact that they want to vaccinate him while they think he has parvo ; vaccinating a weakened and sick animal just does not sound quite right to me at all.

When you get him home in a few days, he will need a special highly digestible diet (Science Diet canned i/d comes to mind but your vet will perhaps recommend something else) to put his intestines back on track (very small meals). Keeping him hydrated will also be very important; there is a product called Rebound Oral Electrolyte Solution that can help do that as well as provide some calories and keep the blood sugar level high enough.

There are plenty of other things to do for a puppy recovering from parvo and if you want to look up more about parvo, here is a link to a site that I find quite thorough and easy to understand (for the kinda of unscientific me)[linkhttp://www.marvistavet.com/html/canine_parvovirus.html]http://www.marvistavet.com/html/canine_parvovirus.html[/link]

    Thanks for the kind words.

He isn't going to vaccinate until he is healthy again but they have been feeding him via syringe as well as subceous (spelling) fluids.  I saw him today and he was just sooo weak.  he is hanging in there and this will be day 4 with parvo.  They have him on prescription diet i/d right now so we will get a few weeks worth of that before we slowly change him over to innova.  He is finally keeping his fluids and food down to that is a major milestone IMO.  we shall see tommorow.

Very good news. If you see improvement by day 4, chances are he will pull through. Glad to hear they will wait to vaccinate (that was a big red light in my head). Try to get some rest cause he will need you when he comes home. We are rooting for puppy Tito. I'll be back to check tomorrow evening (no access at work where, anyway, I should be working and not checking on puppies [;)]).

Well the vet just called and Tito passed away last night.   My wife and i are really torn up about it right now.  He was the perfect puppy and we both got extremely attached to him in a short amount of time.  We both love dogs but i don't see another one in our future for quite some time.  Thanks again for all the great help, prayers, and kind words you gave us.

I am so sorry about Tito. This is just heartbreaking. You know from your posts and all the pictures of that adorable puppy really got to me. It is obvious that Tito was loved so much, and that he was one lucky little pup to have such great parents. I bet that little guy had more love shown to him in his short life than a lot of dogs do that live to old age. I just can't imagine how hard this must be for you, I will be praying for you.  Again I am sorry for your loss.

I don't even know what to say, except that it was obvious he was loved in his little short lifetime.  My prayers are with you and your wife.
