OMG! Jaw dropped over here too. I can not believe that happened! I'm so sorry for both of you! I wouldn't have stomped on his foot, I would have aimed for a region...ahem.... a little bit higher. [:@]

Wow. I could just feel myself getting angry when I read this. Totally understandable for you to be upset. I am so sorry that you and Chinook had to experience this. Props to you for stomping on his foot, and getting out of there.

Another culture and a language barrier does not excuse his actions in the least. You really need to report this man. His behavior was bizarre. Have your husband go with you, and talk to the MPs. If you do not report him, this experience will bother you every time you walk and train your dog in that area. You should not have to change your training routine because of this nutcase. The sooner you report him, the sooner you will be able to move on.

mrv gave you some great training advice!

what the....? that is just....messed up.[:@]

Everyone hit the nail on the head--my jaw literally dropped when I read this. I am so sorry that this happened to you. I think I would've done exactly what you did in that situation. And I definitely agree with mrv's training tips.

I never cease to be amazed by people. I just don't understand! [:@]

I'm sorry you and Chinook went through this. I think I would have acted exactly the same way, except I think Sofia would have taken a chunk out of the guy. I bet YOU felt like taking a chunk out of the guy! What a WACKO!

mrv gave great advice! Now we have to find a way to help YOU feel better...

I think I would have killed that guy, he must be a real nut case, best you got away from him, but I think I would have had him arrested he grabbed your arm didn't he? Something strange going on there.

I am just so completely shocked by this.  I read it during my "lunch" break at work earlier this morning (which is actually 4 am) and had to wait and read it again because I was sure I had misread.  Unfortunately I didn't [&o].  As someone who has a dog who can be timid with men (she was like that when we got her), I would encourage you do do EVERYTHING in your power to give her happy experiences with men (I'm NOT saying this is your fault, mind you), so that this doesn't become a "thing."

Another reason to report this to someone in authority:  You stomped on his foot (justified in my opinion) but he could then claim you assaulted him.  I think it would just be a good idea to have a report that detailed exactly what happened so that if he, at some point, makes something of it.

I am sorry you had to go through this. Hopefully all the wonderful advice will help you and Chinook get over this episode.

I like to think I would have smacked HIM across the face, but in reality I would have been as shocked as you were.  Honestly, that's insane.

I am so sorry - I hope you and Chinook both get over this quickly.

I couldn't respond to this over the weekend, but I share in your lividity!  I think the quote above is correct.  I've been in Belgium before (though not on a NATO base) and the language differences can become cumbersome (cross from one village to the next and you're speaking two diff languages!).  Even so, he read your body language enough to say it was ok to pat the dog.  Unless he was startled by her moving toward the treat, there is no explanation for his smack.  I'm impressed you had the sense to stomp on him.  I don't know I would have been as composed.

How is she doing now?  Hoping she's bounced back beautifully and continues to make you proud.

The first thing i thought of was that maybe he may have wanted to do something to you! Maybe he was trying to see if the dog would be agressive beforehand because he wanted to pull you away for some reason??I wouldnt hesitate to report this! You have been assaulted! Not to mention he could do this to someone else.
Im glad you are both ok.Hope it isnt a huge setback for her.

I was thinking the same thing as nyiceprincess... perhaps he was testing your dog...

It creeps me out, to, when people have been watching me for a while...

I am in total SHOCK!  I CANNOT believe this happened to you and Chinook!  Thank goodness neither of you were physically injured -and I am hoping and praying for you that this won't have a negative impact on Chinook...  Really - I am in complete and utter shock - it is just the kind of thing that you could never have imagined would happen...  Again - thankfully you are both safely out of harm's way - that guy sound like a real whacko.
