Hi!

My name is Terese, and I live in Michigan with my dh, 3 young kids and 2 cats. I hope to someday own a dog, not sure about the breed yet, and in the meanwhile I'm trying to learn as much as possible so that I'll be prepared for what to do reg. care, excersise, training, discipline, affection etc. I have never had a dog before, so I have a lot to learn. I do have some fears too, so I'll be asking about that. I'm watching The Dog Whisperer, which is helping me to understand dogs better and how to train them, but suggestions to any other books and TV programs that would be helpful, is appreciated. Dogs really are wonderful animals (I'm sure you agree! LOL) and I look forward to some day sharing my life with one.

Welcome to you. This is so neat that you are planning ahead and trying to get info before actually getting a dog. I am sure that others will be around with different suggestions but here is a list of what I've been reading lately. They are mostly abouth behavior and understanding the whys, not so much about the nitty-gritty of training.

Thank's for the suggestions! I'll try to get a hold of some of those booksl. I already read "How to speak dog" by Stanley Coren, and that was a good one!

Welcome - there are a lot of helpful folks here for you to glean from and lean on when you take the plunge!
