    Not new Either

I have been here for 3 years.  I didn't know a thing about computers until i lost my 4 year old golden retriever, Hunter to proHeart6 and went to the little local library and had them show me how to use a computer so i could research.  One of the first "hits" I had was a quote from this board by one who had lost a dog to proHeart6.  I came here (it did have a different name them) and been around every sincel  As a matter of fact, until I found this site, i didn't even know about the existance of such  wonderful, informative things.

My name is Sandra and i live on the Texas coast just out of Corpus Chrisit.  I was born in Perth, Western Australia, my mom and Australian city girl, my Dad a Texas farm boy station there with the navy during WWII.    Mom always told people I said "woof woof" before I said mama or dada, and that she had to tie my in my pram to keep me from crawling out after every dog I saw.

I grew with English Setters and pointers, and joined my dad, brothers, and Granpa quail hunting.  I got my first Irish setter when he showed up as a stray, no collar 7 tags, in bad condition.  We bonded at once and were so close hubby  called him Sandra's Shadow.  I simply called him Red Dog from the first because i thought no dog that wonderful would not have an owner looking for him.  I had him 8 years and then lost him to a spinal infection that would not respond to any of the antibiotics my then vet gave him.

I was then given an almost 9 week old irish setter pup, Boots, and had him for 12 1/2 years before losing him to bone cancer.  He was a wonderful dog, so gentle and loving with people and other animals.

Got our first golden retriever in '84, Scooter, and a year later got a full brother, later litter, Buck. We lost Boots in July of '97 and then lost Scooter to a heart attack in Aug '99 just after his 5th birthday.  We then got littermates Hunter and KayCee in Oct. '99  Then in DEc. '02 we adopted golden mix, Honey.  We lost Hunter Oc.t 16, 2003, but still have Buck, kayCee (who turned 7 in Aug. and Honey, who will be 5 in Dec.

Just in the last 9 years I have dealt with bone cancer( Boots), Hip displasia and low thyroid (Scooter, and Buck was diagnosed with low thyroid around his 10th brithday).  KayCee had to have both knees operated on for luxating patella, she had a severe reaction to her 2ed set of annual vax and we almost lost her, and early on she had problems with hot spots.  Rattle snake bit Buck in the face 7 yers ago, a few months later a bad reaction to ground wasp sting on his lip.  Hone had heart worms when we adopted her and she had to go thru that horrid treatment.  And then she ate some d-con we accidently knocked out the addict and that was emergency trip to the doctor and then shots and 50 days of Vitamin K capsuls.  And of course, the Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and liver damage brought on by the ProHeart6 injection, which killed my Hunter.  I h ave probaly left some out--oh yea, Boots got a bad ear hematoma and had to have surgery on his ear and i had to take care of it for over a week.  And the time he got a fish hook stuck in his tongue and we had to rush him all the to Corpus to emergency vet as at that the time  the vet here didn't do after hours or Sat. like our vet does now.

I enjoy cooking for my dogs, I love to salt water fish (went yesterday afternoon and came home with two 25" redfish, which i gave to my son instead of cooking for the dogs.  I like arts and crafts, jig saw and crossword puzzles, talking about my dogs, my grandkids, and of course my sons and hubby.  he is a cross country trucker gone 2-4 weeks at a time, so just me and the dogs.  Have a 7 year old grandson, his little sister age 5, and other son has a daughter, 3 1/2.  And I think that covers it.

Sandra, I have always felt the bond between you and Hunter through your words.  It's nice to meet your other dogs, too!

    Hi Sandra.

My boyfriend grew up in Bunburry, WA. And my half-sister lives in Perth with her husband and daughter. It's very beautiful. I visit every year or so.

Nice to hear your story. I'm liking this introduction of people that have been here so much longer than me. [:)]
