    My thin baby

    Here's Meylia........

She's lost a lot of muscle mass and weight. Diagnosed with IBD and hyperthyroid. Not responding great to tapazole, going for more blood work today.

Poor baby, I really hope the treatments start to work for her soon.

Good Luck to both of you X

cats get hyperactive thyroid. Might have to play around with her tapizole dosage. My mother's cat has a hyperactive thyroid too (well not anymore they had it removed) and it took awhile to get his dosage correct. Same with people...sometimes it takes awhile to know which dosage is going to work - took 3 years to finally get my hubby's dosage to the strength where he needed it.
Have they checked your kitty for CRF or diabetes?
    Poor little fella

Have you considered radiation therapy for her Hyperthyroid?http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/depts-vth/I131_treatment.asp in case you are interested.

    She's a cutie pie!! [:)]

Yes we are considering the radition, because the meds cause vomiting.

Thanks so much for that site.....

We did radiation on my old kitty who was hyperthyroid but healthy other wise (on bloodwork) sh espent 9 days in the hospital and came home and got fat and healthy and never needed another day of meds afterwards until she passed several years later. IT was fantastic!

radiocat is very expensive but there is another procedure you can ask your vet about - my parents had this done with their Tinker. They couldn't pill him (my parents are in ther 70s and my father was getting clawed up horribly trying to pill Tinker - you can get Tapizole compounded into a cream that is rubbed into the ear but their vet did this instead).
He aspirated (?) the thyroid gland using a needle.
He put Tinker under anesthesia then inserted a large needed into his neck and literally sucked the gland out.
Never heard of it being done like this but it worked. Tinker had to go for quarterly bloodtests to check his hormone levels but otherwise he's fine. It's been a year and he hasn't had to go back on his pills. He's doing wonderfully.

hmmm.. very interesting, I will ask my vet about this, that would be so much easy on her.
    Thanks for everyones input.
