    Cats been eating dog food..

The last week or so i've caught my cat eating my dogs food. Which is Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. We feed her Whiska's and have had no problems with her eating it. Im wonder why she would be interested in his food? I've seen her eat her own food as well so I dont think its because she doesnt like her food. Does anybody elses cat eat the dogs food sometimes? She doesnt do it all the time but its odd. It isnt bad for her or anything is it?

a steady diet of it would be bad...probably no worse than Whiskas to be honest. Read the label on Whiskas it's mostly corn I believe.
I've had foster cats snack on dog food..it's only if it is their only source of food when it becomes a problem since cats and dogs have different nutriental needs but once in awhile won't hurt

I kind of figured a response like yours. My fault for labeling what kind of food I feed.

I understand the different nutrients that each needs but I havent seen her eat it consistantly. Just here and there. So I guess its not bad for her in certain terms..though as you feel its no different than the food I feed her now...But we all have our own opinions. Sometimes its nice to keep certain comments to ourselves as the adults we are though. But thanks for any help.

My cat also eats Whiskas. I have tried many other brands, which she just turns up her nose at. Cats are strange creatures in that it is hard to 'starve' them into eating something they don't want. LOL Anyways if Whiskas works - it works!

Dog food has less protien and fat than dog food. I'm not sure why your cat would prefer it over her own. I know my dog thinks Whiskas is the greatest.

I wasn't intending to be rude...I don't purchase the high end food either. With 4 cats I simply can't afford it BUT I do try to purchase one with a little better list of ingredients that what you would see on Whiskas. Same with dog food - I don't buy the best out there but I don't buy the cheapest either.
I realized when I hit ok on the post that probably sounded rude and I should have reworded it - but I'm having a typical Monday with a dog leaking all over my house so my thoughts are elsewhere.
Last Monday I got locked into the carwash and waited 20 minutes for someone to notice me and the Monday before that I put my underwear on inside out [8|] I really should just skip mondays and move onto Tuesday but then Tuesday would be Monday so nothing would change LOL

My cats are evil, naughty scavangers!  (I love them though!)  ALL of them eat anything.  It started with my first kitten.  I've never been able to free-feed him b/c he eats everything so fast and then barfs.  He also had a BAD habbit of getting on the counter.  Since him, all the other cats watch him do naughty things when I'm not around and they do it too.  My housemate's cat Maximus was so bad, we had to buy child locks for all the cupboard doors and put bricks in the bottom of the trash can so he couldn't pull it over.  They will eat anything and everything if you let them.  Currently, we're using a soda can that has about 20 coins in it as a "cat rattle" (they're immune to other loud noises supposed to keep cats off counters) and it is working well.  They stay off the counter and the table.  I have no doubt they'd eat dog food.  We feed our cats twice a day.  They all have a bowl with a different color and texture and are always fed in the same order (slowest to fastest eaters).  This way, they don't fight over each other's food.

Peaches will eat dog food if its in their bowl, which is not long. She will eat anything, including chips, banana chips, lettuce,etc...She begs worse than the dogs.

Its all right..we all have our days. Ya I feed her Wiska's cuase its what she eats. My pets are really picky. I had to feed buster science diet sensative stomach becuase its the only food that doesnt cuase him to spit up plus he loves it. Doesnt fuss when its dinner time. and I though kids were picky.

Cletus would eat the Eukanuba Low Residue dog food we fed at one time. In fact, he insisted on getting a few bits whenever I fed the dog! None of the other dog foods I've used has interested him though.

There is no harm in the cat eating the dog's food every once in a while as long as she is eating her own food.  You don't want her to get deficient in any nutrients that are absent in dog food that cat's need.

Just curious, have you tried offering her some canned food from time to time?  I ask because the healthiest diet for cats is a diet of mostly, if not all canned food.  There is a general consensus now that most cats who eat a diet of just dry food are chronically dehydrated and that is not good for their kidneys and other body functions.  My cats both got used to dry cat food and turned their noses up at canned but with some patience they now love their canned food and I know they are getting the water that they need.
