    Cat Food

What do you all feed your cats? [8|]

Do you rotate their food...just like suggested for dogs? It's pretty hard to find Cat Food that is not chicken based...

Also, do you do dry food and canned food? My cat prefers dry...but I know canned is way better for cats.

Has anyone fed Timberwolf Organics Serengeti Herbal Felid Diet?

Would love to hear all your comments/opinions/suggestions.

    THANKS! [:D]

I don't have a cat, but if I did, I would DEFINITELY feed this.
You KNOW it's going to be low in ash and healthy for the cat.

I'm in the process of transitioning Trixie from Nutro to Innova (regular feline version).  The switch is having moderate success so far.  I'd eventually like for her to be on Innova EVO (for cats).

We feed regular Innova cat food, but have also fed Chicken Soup.  The cats have done great on both, but Innova is a bit cheaper because of its high Kcal content.

Roxie, where do you get your Innova ?

I found Earth Fare in Turkey Creek and they carry some Innova but I didnt see any Evo but they may be willing to order it.

I just put in my order for Timberwolf Organics Serengeti Herbal Felid Diet! I am so excited to see how he likes it...it is less protein than EVO, but also way less ASH...so I am happy about that...

I am keeping my fingers crossed! [:)]

(I give my cat the EVO canned...which he enjoys...but only as a snack. He prefers dry for his meals. What do your cats like?)

Cindy, I bought the Innova at Agri Feed & Pet Supply on Middlebrook Pike.  They have Innova and California Natural.  It's closer to me than Earth Fare (I usually go to the Pet Supplies "Plus" in Fountain City for the Nutro), though I was just in Turkey Creek to catch a movie the other day.

I'd be happy to PM you the directions.

Just curious ... how did your cat like it?

I finally have Trixie eating Healthwise, so I'm not switching anytime soon.  It's been a hellacious battle, especially when compared to how easy Roxie is with food switches.

I had been feeding my cats Eagle Pack Organic Hairball formula dry, which they all really liked, and various canned foods - rotating Innova, Solid Gold (the ocean whitefish and blended tuna), Merrick grandma's pot pie, and Innova EVO.  The EVO canned has rapidly become number one favorite and they seem now to be snubbing the dry.

I like to feed both because it makes cat care when I'm away a bit easier or gives me more ease of mind - I have people come in at least twice a day, but leaving the dry out means the kitties have something to nosh on when the schedule is less regular.  And they've always seemed to like having both.

I think I have to switch to another dry - they've gotten bored with it.

I see a holistic vet in IL who recommends ONLY wet food, so that is what I am doing.  I have two cats, a Persian from a rescue and an Exotic kitten.  They are fed 3 times per day - about 2 tbls per meal. I feed them Eagle, Solid Gold, Purina and Eukanuba (lots of variety).  I do give them treats and occassionally some Wellness dry food for a treat.  They are doing fantastic and are staying trim.  My vet is very concered with kidney problems, which so many purebred cats develop - so this is his recommendation. It is probably a good idea for all of our beloved cats.

Is there a decent food in Walmart? Ive found Purina One for the dogs but I havent seen a Purina One for cats.

Ive got the pups on Kirkland Chicken and Rice now, but I dont think it would be very smart to buy a huge bag of cat food for only one cat

purina does make a purina one and pro plan for cats. not sure if wal-mart carries those or not though.

edit: i think the target we shop at carries purina one for cats. do you have one of those nearby?
    • Gold Top Dog
Nope no Target. WalMart has a VERY limited selection when it comes to Cat Stuff. They have some bags of IAMS on the highest shelf but I am not touching that with a ten foot pole. I'd rather feed Ol' Kitty (LOL)

Weve got Whiskas, Friskies, Fancy Feast, Cat Chow etc. I think I can try K-Mart and see if they have One.

"Whiskas, Friskies, Fancy Feast, Cat Chow" - all these have about the same ingredient list. i would pick one that your cat likes, and switch to something better if it becomes available. i believe all of these except for the whiskas is made by purina.

we fed our cats purina cat chow for indoor cats (green bag) for about 2 years. they did ok on it.
