Felidae

    Felidae

Has anyone fed this to their cat?  It is, of course, made by the Canidae crew and is a great cat and kitten food.  However, my kitten ate some of it and has been feeling icky.  I am taking it back when I can for a refund, since the shop owner said I could.

Anyone had successful results?  Maybe it was such a drastic change from Nutro (I know -- the dreaded "N" word).

My cats are doing great on it healthwise- they look fabulous and haven't had any issues. The only problem that has cropped up occasionally is apparent boredom with the flavor - a major issue with my male cat, and only rarely with the female. However my female is extremely greedy when it comes to food, so her rejection of anything is pretty significant. I never had her reject any other cat foods. But this problem hasnn't been a big enough deal to stop feeding it.

None of my 3 kitty boyz cared for Felidae and I'm too much of a pushover to wait it out! They prefer Innova and Solid Gold, so I've stuck with those.

did you switch right away? your kitty may not be feeling well from the switch. the same as with dogs - when you switch their food you want to mix it in, to adjust their systems to the new food.

She refuses to eat the Felidae now, so she's gone back to her Nutro. And yeah, that's a mid-grade food, but I'm just thrilled that she's feeling better again. At this point, I'd be thrilled if she had eaten Special Kitty -- LOL!

I realize this is weeks old, but my cats have been eating Felidae for maybe two months now (switched from Science Diet [:'(]), and one of them is VERY skinny. We have no litter boxes, as they all "do their business" outside, but it looks like she's having poop problems too. She's long haired, and she keeps having poop stuck in her hair. One of the others has also lost a little weight, but he was a little chunky to start with and now looks good. The other two are about the same.

I don't understand why Tiger's lost so much weight. She's down to 6 pounds. I thought she's always been around 10, but my Mom and sister say she's usually around 7, and they don't think she's skinny, which I don't understand. I can feel every bone in her spine just barely touching her, her shoulders stick out, her hip bones stick out, etc. She doesn't seem emaciated to me, just skinny and needs a couple pounds. Like I said, she's long haired, so nothing's visible, just really really easily felt.

I'm not worried about her, and don't really think I should be, I'm just telling about Felidae. And I don't know what to switch to. They ate regular Innova for a while, and Lou got a really bad peeing-blood UTI. I'd like to feed Evo, but I'm worried about anything Innova causing UTIs again. Anyone have any suggestions?

Trixie is much better without the Felidae.  She also dropped weight and looked bad.  Now she's back to normal and enjoying herself immensely.  With Roxie, I've never really had issues with food changes.  She's eaten about every food on the market.  This was Trixie's first switch to a different brand (and probably her last).

She does well on Nutro, although I know how it doesn't sit well with fellow posters.  As long as she eats well, looks great, and acts normal, I'll continue feeding it to her.

    Chelsea:

Tigers issues could be all related to stress with the new food or it not completely agreeing with her - maybe being too rich or switching too quickly.  I'm guessing the problems with her long hair "bloomers" around her back end are also the result of loose bowel movements.

But it could be more serious too, and if it persists, especially if you switch foods again and it persists, she should see a vet.  Being an outdoor kitty, she is exposed to a lot of serious feline illnesses an indoor cat would not get exposed to.

In terms of diet and UTI with Lucifer, I'm guessing with food we are talking strictly dry food? I've been most successful with controling my males' UTIs feeding a combination of canned and high quality dry.  More moisture helpse and many cats do not drink a lot of water.

we are feeding felidae right now. we made an almost cold turkey switch but not by choice. we were feeding chicken soup, but the pet store we were getting it from has gotten really crappy at staying stocked. they seem to be diong well with it. one of our cats has a problem with throwing up, and on felidae she has been throwing up a lot less. maybe one time a week at most, instead of several times a week (when they were on purina almost daily, on chicken soup about 2-3 times per week).

when i was researching cat foods, the info i found was that nutro nccc was recommended as a premium cat food by many sources. i wanted to try our cats on their indoor adult cat formula, but it was pretty expensive when i could find it (not everyone that carries nutro carried the indoor formulas).[sm=2cents.gif]

Yeah, it's expensive when compared to other premium cat foods.  That's a definite con, but there are many more pros in my situation.

I *have* considered switching Trixie to CS when she's an adult.  I'd try it now -- yes, even after the Felidae fiasco (ha ha ...) -- but the Pet Supplies "Plus" I frequent does not have the kitten formula in a small bag.  I refuse to bring home an 18 pound bag, have her hate it, and be screwed over.  Besides, a six pound (I think) bag lasts for a month and a half with her; eighteen pounds is too much for just one small kitten.

Then, I'm brought back to when Roxie suddenly refused CS.  I'd hate for Trixie to do that ... but she may not.

There are more PSPs in the city, plus a few PetsMarts, but they're ALL grouped in the western portion of the city (Go figure!!!).  Traffic is a complete and total nightmare there, so I do not want to deal with it.  Strangely enough, the PetsMarts do not carry CS.  Again, go figure!

i would stick with nutro too since you know your kitten does well on it.

i also hate that stores that stock a certain brand dont carry a full line. i hate it when you are stuck with buying a 20lb bag and hoping that your pet likes or does well on it. it is nice when you can find a store that has samples, or will let you return a bag of food if your pets dont like it.

we have two (BIG) cats, and we free feed them. they wont eat canned food, and have gotten so used to free feeding they wont eat on schedule either. usually a 20 lb bag of food only lasts us about 1.5-2 months (hill's prescription they were on for a while, purina, and chicken soup). the felidae (even though it was pretty pricey!) looks like it is going to last at least 2 months (probably closer to 3). so price isnt everything. i was suprised that my wife even bought the felidae it was soo expensive. usually she wont spend that much on a bag of food.

if i knew (or thought) the nutro would last as long as the felidae has, i would try them on it since the petsmart near us carries it and they are only a couple of miles from our house. if we stick with the felidae, i will probably get a smaller bag next time since it lasts so long.

It is very annoying for them not to carry a small bag of the CS kitten formula.  I know she does well on Nutro, but I still want to try her out on CS before ruling it out.  They *could* special order it for me, I'm sure, but then I'll feel silly having to bring it back (if she hates it).

Trixie is free fed, too.  She'd be pretty ticked if I left her food bowl on the floor for a mere 20 minutes, twice a day.  I can picture her expression now: "Um, you do know who rules this house, don't you?  And don't even think it's you or that endlessly irritating dog!"  LOL!  [:D]  Gotta love the felines!

I had to switch my cats food.  The HS had them on Science Diet[:'(]!!  Bonkers was choking on hairballs & Tigey couldn't poop.  We tried the Nutro & both have done very well on it.  I should say all, as we feed Nutro to our dogs too.  Since I joined this forum, I've been told that their are better foods than Nutro out there.  Innova was suggested, I'll try it, but if my pets don't like it, I'll go back Nutro.  My husband said something interesting "if it isn't broke, don't fix it."  Something to ponder.

But by the time it is broke, it's too late to fix it. JMO though.
