    Cat in heat

My poor baby Satin is in heat again. She is getting to be older (8+) and I thought she was to old to do so now but she is def. in heat. I was wondering if there is any way to comfort her? If you are wondering why she is not spayed...years ago when she was a kiten she got put to sleep for the procedure but had an allergic reaction to the anestsia (sp?).
I feel so bad for her b/c she just roams the house moaning (and spraying!).

I feel so bad for you, a cat in heat is the worst thng in the world! I had a beautiful Siamese Mix once and after she went through her first heat I vowed never to have an unspayed cat. Its horrible, horrible and I really think you should speak to your vet to see if she can go under with a different form of anesthesia and get her spayed

I would try again....she's older now.
For every heat a cat goes into that doesn't result in a pregnancy she is closer to getting pyrometria.
Discuss anesthesia options with your vet

What is pyrometria?! Is 8 yrs. to old to spay a cat?

pyometria is an infected uterus and is life threatening...and no 8 years isn't too old to spay.
I would seriously ask the vet about anesthesia options and do the preanesthesia bloodwork to rule out any issues with that too.

A female cat in heat can be almost unbearable! It really makes me wonder why so many cats arent spayed! How can people put up with it!
Def ask your vet about different options. And get some good cleaner and maybe some ear plugs. Can you confine her in any way?To atleast limit where she is spraying?

Dogs and cats don't go through menopause. I learned this from my vet when we had to spay my 9 year old dog.(I was too young to know my dog needed to be spayed and my parents were ignorant.  She developed mammory tumors which in the end, most likely ended her life.)

8 years is a long time to deal with a cat in heat lol. Butters is my first cat and when she went into heat it was down right annoying. I've never been through a cat in heat before. Sadly she got Pyrometra (stated above) after about 1yr old. We were lucky that she had symptoms because usualy there are non that are obvious. She became very lethargic and (this may be gross for some) she started pussing from her female regions. I imediately brought her to the vet. At that appointment the vet highly suggested they do surgery to remove her uterus that day. I was so in shock at what it turned out to be and so was the vet becuase butters was still pretty much a kitten. They said it usualy happens to older females and they die from it because its an infection with usualy no warning signs. They would have given her a few weeks at most if we wouldnt have had seen the signs. After the surgery she went right back to her spunky self. Thank goodness for vets!

But yes the older they get the more risk there is of them getting pyrometra. And after 8 years im sure they've come up with more solutions for anethesia reactions. :D
