Best cat litter?

    Best cat litter?

Ok, so I am new to the cat thing and I need some recommendations on litter :)  So far I have been using Fresh Step which has been great for odor control, but it just doesn't clump very well.  I have had recommendations for Tidy Cats (immediate odor control) and Arm & Hammer.  My question is: what is a good brand that clumps the best but still controls odors well?   Thanks in advance!

I use the cheap stuff like the store brand it clumps very well but i do add baking soda to the litter it helps with the clumping and the odor control

We use Cat Attract with no complaints.

I use Arm & Hammer (I use both the regular & multi-cat formulas), it works really well for clumping & keeps the odor away....I tried a store brand before, but it didn't keep the smell at bay.  The clumping worked so-so, but was still a bit runny when it got wet.

Even though I only have the one cat, I use litter for multi-cat homes. They seem to clump better. Kanga's eleven this year, and I have always used Premium Choice Extra Scoopable cat litter.  Clumps great, no smell, and even better yet, she doesn't track it all over the house!  Petco used to carry 50 lb bags for $20, but they stopped carrying them here.  Now, it is $12 for a 16 lb bucket, but I don't go through it very fast. About a month or more to one bucket.  When we lived in College Station, some of the specialty pet stores carried this brand as well. I really like it even if I do have to go to Beaumont now to find it.

We used to buy Tidy Cats multi-cat scoopable, but we switched to Walmart's Special Kitty clumping litter. Honestly, I can't complain about it. It clumps, and the cat box never really smells because Brett (notice Brett gets the poop jobs, not me lol) sifts the box several times a week. Whenever I do notice a funky smell, it's usually just time to do a complete change, but it takes a while to get to that point.

With my two cats, I use Fresh Step's clumping litter.  It works great, no smells, and lasts forever.

Cats -- like dogs -- are different with stuff, though.

The girl who helped me at Petsmart told me only the clay formulas of litter until the kitten is 6 months of age.  Anyone use these?  Any opinions as to which one is a good brand of the clay type?  At this point I just bought the Petsmart brand but I dont think I am really happy with the odor[:'(].

I notice that you said sifts the litter box often. I saw those at the pets store but wanted to speak to someone who uses one before I bothered.  How do you guys like the sifter pans?

I use fresh step for my two cats and you can hardly tell the smell.

Forget about the brands available in the grocery store - go to a pet supply place and buy "Swheatscoop" or "World's Best Cat Litter".  Yes, it's more expensive, but it works better and lasts longer and is worth the money in my opinion.  One is made from wheat and the other is made from corn.  Good clumping ability, no sickening perfumy smell and minimal dust flying around.

I don't own a cat but at the clinic I work at we use some clumpable littler from Sams Club for cats who board with us. It's works well for keeping the smell for speading and working at a place wher we can have up to 12 or more cats at any given time smell is a big deal. It's so much nicer than what we used in the past (cheep wal-mart stuff) and if I owned a cat I would buy that for it. We also scoop it out once a day and change it once a week so that also helps a lot.

we have used fresh step, tidy cats, arm & hammer, yesterday's news, and several different store brands. we just got a freeby bag of feline pine, but havent tried it yet. i liked the fresh step best. tidy cats and arm & hammer didnt cover the smell as well to me. plus the tidy cats didnt clump very well for us. i think it is also important to consider what your cats like. ours didnt like some of the litter we tried. better to have something they like than poop/pee on the carpet! Another fan of World's Best Cat Litter here (made from corn). I swear it is better at odor control then any of the perfumed brands - my cats no longer smell of that stuff and there is less tracking.  Bought it because of the self cleaning box, but use it in all boxes.
