Actually, a Paint is a horse of Quarter Horse descent, and it does not have to have "paint" markings. A pinto, is a horse of color that descended from other breeds, ie, a colored Saddlebred, Half-Arabian, Draft, etc. I am an Arabian/ Half-Arabian person and we see a lot of Arabian/Paint crosses, this is where it gets sort of confusing, even though the horse is half Paint, and colored like one, it is still considered a pinto. Having known many "paint people" and many "half-arabian people" I happen to know that a "paint person" would be terribly offended if their horse was called a pinto, and a "half-arabian person" would be offended if their horse was called a paint. Horse people are almost as bad as dog people! Given that I am both, I must be really crazy!!
