Spook-proofing

    Spook-proofing

My yearling colt is rather spooky and over-reactive, so I spend a lot of time spook-proofing him. Here he is wearing his Superman outfit while I lead him with the trailer. He knows he can't outpull the horse trailer, so he just has to accept all the flapping and go on down the road. I can keep an eye on him in the rear-view mirror. In the last picture, no one is actually driving the pickup. I let it chug on down the road by itself while I stepped out to take some pictures. Of course, Teddy has to follow along behind.

Superman! Able to leap tall buildings.... [:D] Someone needs to be driving though!!!
I throw stuff at my horses all the time to spook proof them. Although Jet spooked at my neighbors colorful skirt flapping in the breeze but not when I fling a metal garbage can cover clanging down on the cement in front of him. [sm=smack.gif]

I thought Big Red did a pretty good job of driving himself. He didn't run into a tree or anything.

Of course, we don't have many trees around here....

Speaking of spooking...tonight I was riding in the new outdoor ring at the barn and a herd of deer decided to run behind the ring off into the woods...let's just say I've never heard Forrest snort so loud in my life.....he felt like a ticking time-bomb! LOL Luckily he just froze instead of  his normal "lets run away from the killer picnic bench"\ [:D]

Ohh! YAY!  PICTURES!!  Look at him, he's so handsome... in his cape!  [sm=biggrin.gif]   So, in essence you have horse in a cape and a truck that drives itself.  You must live in a magic land, Shirley! Hehehe [8D]

In all seriousness, he does look very handsome and like he's doing very well with his spooky training. De-spook-ifying a horse can be tough.  My arabian used to be afraid of white rocks, if it was bigger than about 2 ft in diameter he was very concerned for his well being.  Stryder is a pretty passive guy by comarison, although the 2 kids driving by on a moped at record speeds [:@] got his panties in a bunch.  Major flight reaction, and he'd never done that before or since. I was livid at the kids, they were doing this where people ride horses I told them they needed to go much, much slower and be very considerate of the horses.  I have a few friends out there that should they have been on their horses, they could have been hurt pretty bad.  Anything that fast, that loud and with that many heads cannot be good, nor natural in Stryders opinion!

Deer!  Wheeeee, Pap!  Sounds like Forrest was a good boy for ya.  ... now where are our pictures!?
