    Employment Debate Continued

The boss asked us to continue this debate here, if we are so inclined, and since I am having so much fun with it.  [:)]

jessies_mom said    >>Have you read papillon's third post on the second page of this thread?<<

Oh I don't know.  I am so confused.  Is this the post where she said she was going to ask the lady about the location of the job or is this the post where she said the job would require a move to Ohio?  [;)]

Both posts on 7/13, BTW.  BEFORE she met with the lady again "tomorrow" to discuss specifics like, among other things, location.

Thank you for moving on.... remember as MK's signature states...
    NICE MATTERS!!!
    • Gold Top Dog
Yes, there is a difference between knowing the GENERAL location such as the state, vs the SPECIFIC location such as location within Ohio.  I knew only one of those at the time....
    • Gold Top Dog
Oh, I see.  This employment contract that you, I believe you said, read the fine print in like you were "going blind tomorrow," only mentioned that the job was in Ohio, but not specifically where in Ohio.  Gotcha.  [;)]

That does matter though.  Cincinnati ain't Cleveland.
    • Gold Top Dog
Does it really matter, Billy?  Ohio is a veeery small state (says the CA Kid) and with that salary you could probably live extremely well anywhere and have any means of transportation that you choose available.[:)]

Papillon I don't know nor care how much money you are going to make. But if  this is a job that you are intrested in takeing then I say go for it.  As for some people on this form that are replying to papillon  remember there is a real  person behind the computer.

You're right, once again, Joyce.  It doesn't really matter.    From what I can tell, looking at their income statement and balance sheet, PG is a pretty well run company,  I am sure she will do well there and work her way up the corporate latter quickly.

If she wants to take some $25,000 lab tech job with PG, that's fine by me.  She can tell the story any way she wants.  I just didn't want her to think EVERYONE here is buying it.  SOME of us know better.

Have a pleasant weekend.  It is going to be absurdly hot here.  Unfortunately, I am going to have to work in it.  My wife, in her infinite wisdom, decided to have every bit of carpet in the house replaced this week.  All of our furniture is in the garage.  I get to move it back into the house this weekend.  Grrrrrr.  I am way too old for this.  [:)]

Well, have fun this weekend.  [:D] At least you have a garage to move your stuff into.  We converted ours to a huge room w/fireplace & vaulted ceiling about 16 years ago.  Next recarpeting venture ought to be a real picnic.  I'll need to find a company that will do one room at a time, spaced over a couple of months.[:D] Putting it all outside just isn't a good idea.

Billy, FWIW, my sister has a PhD as well.  She could work for Eli Lilly, Inc in Indianapolis for quite a bit of money.  She doesn't want to commute from Bloomington (1 hour) and her husband doesn't want to leave Bloomington.  So she works at IU for probably half what she could be making at Eli Lilly.  So large companies that are doing very well, can and will, offer large salaries to get the people they want.  And knowing people is half the battle!!!  ;)

    I am not disputing that.

So last night I went to dinner with my friend who is a chemist (in the research dept.) of P&G.  Now she did admit that she does not work in the dog food area specifically but when I asked what a PhD person would get, starting, as a dept. head, she agreed that $250k sounded like a lot and thought it would be more along the lines of $80k to start.
    • Gold Top Dog
$80k wouldn't strike me as out of line either.  Other than that, I think I have made it pretty clear how I feel about the story and I have nothing substantial to add.

Well, actually I do have one thing to add.  Someone, who read the thread, emailed me.  BOTH of this person's parents are VP's for PG.  This person's opinion, in summary, is there is absolutely no way this story is true.
    • Gold Top Dog
    This person's opinion

Ah. In McKinney, Texas, an opinion and $1.30 will get you a 20 oz. Diet Coke.

Yes, you are. That is exactly what you are doing. You simply cannot believe that company would offer a smart person like Papillon a hefty salary to help with their food that might lead to increased sales. They could hire her or an ad exec. Which would you rather have? A scientist or a wordsmith? By trying to analyze every word or lack thereof, you are trying to lay a semantic crap, I mean, trap. If you knew how much I make digging a hole in the ground, you might just crap your pants.
