A snake in my bed

    A snake in my bed

About three days ago, my 4' ball python escaped from his enclosure. First let me explain why I have him (Monty). I sometimes do educational programs in schools and he makes an excellant program animal. My husband had prohibited me from ever bring a snake into the house (but that's another story, lol), anyway, when I brought him home, the DH said that I needed to make 100% sure that he could not get "loose" in the house. I used heavy duty duct tape to tape down the whole perimeter of the lid and have the hinged portion of the lid weighted down. Well, three days ago, as I was going through my morning routine, I went to turn on his light and he was GONE!!!!! I started into a panic looking all over the house for him. I was really concerned for his safety and my Chi's safety as well. My DH got this really worried look on his face (he doesn't like snakes) and started giving me a hard time about it. He said he could hardly think of it crawling up in bed with him during the night.
GUESS WHAT????  I just found him, in bed with my DH!!!! LOLOLOL Actually, he was crawling out from under the covers and the head of the bed and fell off the side onto the floor. I thought DH was going to spaz out!!!!
He (Monty) is back in his home and the DH has now settled back down. The cat still is lurking around wearily!

OH MY, I would have totally freaked I know it. Paul used to have snakes before we met and he at one time Thought he was going to get another. I don't think so! I know they are Gods creatures and all but there is no way I would ever get any sleep with a snake in my house for the very reason of what happened at your house. I feel for your poor husband[;)]

I only wish I had had my camera when he saw it!!!! [sm=rotfl.gif] I know it's not funny to everyone, but I guess I am just so used to handling all kinds of animals, that snakes don't bother me. I once wrangled a copperhead to relocate it away from a tigers cage. No one else would do it, but they didn't want to kill it either! He'll sleep easier tonight and so will I knowing Monty is safe and sound! I am sure the cat and the chihuahua's will eventually stop worring as well.

I had a friend years ago who had a few big snakes in his house. He had turned the closets in his house into snake rooms and had replaced the regular door with plexi glass and it was pretty cool.

This was a long time ago, at least 15 years,  when I use to smoke pot. A bunch of us were at this guys house and I had promised my one friend that all the snakes were in their cages even though I knew they weren't. I was sitting across the room from her and she was taking a hit.. all of a sudden my eyes got big and I started laughing.. she looked beside her as this 6 foot snake came up over the back of the couch right behind her shoulder!

She ran outside and locked herself in my car and wouldn't let me in for over an hour. I don't think I'll ever forget the look on her face because she was taking her hit as she turned her head and saw it.

Ok so what was that reason you gave your DH to let you keep the snake?  I need to use it on BF.  I love snakes and he doesnt.  Come to think about it last year he didn't like dogs either.  Haha we now have 3 of those!  Just hope he never decides that we need cats.  eeee now there is an evil creature.  Well just the small housecat variety.  I would love to hold a baby tiger cub someday.  Would never have one though, Kennel Keeper.  Don't worry.  I just think they are beautiful.  Better off in their natural habitat.

Kennell Keeper, I'm afraid I would have to divorce you!!  LOL!

He really puts up with alot from me, lol. I am always bringing home some kind of animal (usually for rehab). Must love me to death to put up with it!
As far as my reason for getting the snake, it was a rescue. The person who had it could not keep it and I was looking for one for my educational programs. I didn't ask if it was ok (I knew it wouldn't be), just brought it home. Funny, when he saw me with a box taped up, he said what do you have this time.

LOL, Very funny. Poor DH. How does he feel about your Tigers? Maybe you could put one of those in his bed...

My autistic son LOVES snakes. (I do, too,so that's a good thing) He recently asked for his first pet. We were so proud that he used a full sentence and used some complex thoughts. He said,"Want a hog nose for a pet." Thanks for letting me share, we were pretty proud!

OMG, you would have had to peel me off the ceiling. I think snakes are lovely creatures, but only as long as they're not in my house, and particularly not in my bed. Your husband seems like a wonderful man. I wish you HAD been able to get a pic! [:D]

Twelvepaws, that's awesome!! Thank you for sharing that with us. I know you must be pleased and proud!

Wow, I bet that was a special moment. I had watched a show on animal planet once where an autistic childs dog had been hit by a car and the parents said that the boy would call for the dog by name and that was one of the few words he could say. Made me happy to see that the vet was able to save the dog to go back home to that special boy. Also just want to say Hats Off To You! It takes a very special person to be able to take care of a special needs child make s me happy to  hear when parents don't give up on them[:D]

Well thank you. Everyone deals with what you're handed! I've learned, since having my boy, that everybody has something they're struggling with.

I'm glad they saved the dog. Dogs have really been a great "tool" (more than that!) for many autistic kids. Dogs are even trained as service dogs for some autistic chlidren. Sometimes that's the only connection some autistic kids make, and sometimes it's a stepping stone to further interaction.

I'm not afraid of snakes unless they sneak up on me...yes, that's right. lol When I was a kid, I think snakes flocked to me for some reason. Once, I was walking through an empty lot across from my house (my parents live in the country), and of course, I was barefoot. So I stepped on a snake not knowing it was in the grass. Apparently, I started screaming hysterically (I was 5), and my mom couldn't get me to stop screaming, even when she brought me inside, that she actually slapped me. That brought me back to earth.[sm=lol.gif]
