I just found an excuse to order a Dyson...

I've noticed my Hoover just doesn't seem to be suctioning as well as it used to (probably has a clog somewhere, but I didn't turn it over to find out...will do that later now that DH said OK).  I didn't order the Animal, but a model which is lighter weight, in consideration of my bad back.  Apparently the suction is a tad bit less, but still good, according to what I read. Of course, I will keep the Hoover, as it is self-propelled, and I still may find it handy. Devious women...LOL!

I can top that.  I told my husband that the bag in the vacuum that we use outside for the cars, some small carpet pieces we have, dog beds, etc., is full and I can't find them in any store.  We both agreed that it might be because the things so old and I said, "well, if we get that new Dyson, then we can take the one we use inside and use it outside".  He actually thought that was a good idea [sm=biggrin.gif].

You guys are good!!!!  I'm taking notes!  Hopefully my Oreck will just get lost/stolen/broken in the move and I won't have to come up with my own excuses.

Good job Marty!! I think you'll find that your Dyson moves pretty nicely over carpets.  I like it's movement more than any self propelled vacuums I've used.

I may be in the minority but I have a purple Dyson and find it cumbersome, too heavy and inconvenient.  The pick up is impressive because u can see what is inside the cannister (mine fills up quickly with 6 dogs, 5 cats). By the way, you don't need the "animal" model. The only difference besides the color is the attachments (which I hav prob used once or twice). Hoover has a new model that is supposedly superior to the Dyson relative to suction, etc.

P.S.  The Dyson doesn't go beneath furniture as it is too large.  You have to use the attachment made for that.  It also does not clean along the baseboards, etc.  Again you have to use an attachment.  The plus about the machine is that it is easy to take apart to clean.  Which is another chore that must be done frequently if you have several animals.  If I had my druthers, I'd trade my Dyson in for something less expensive.  It has convinced me that I prefer bagless 100% over the bag type though.  If you are committed to purchasing a Dyson, you can usually find them online for approx. $100 less than in the store.  I purchased mine online , paid no tax or shipping.  That was 2 yrs ago so I don't know if those terms are still avail.  Good luck!

Cubby. I"ve been watching comments on this vaccum for a long time...and had mixed feelings.  I know that even with 3 dogs, I didn't need the Animal..leather furniture. Probably can't handle it anyway.  If this doesn't work out, I'll let you all know, but I had to try..just me.

If you don't get the animal, I recommend the attachment for furniture.  I am obsessed with it, my husband and I vacuum our couches everytime we vacuum.  I also use it on the stairs and to vacuum my bedspread and the fabric kitchen chairs (kitty's sleepin spot).

This is the link to the mini turbine head...obsessed, obsessed, obsessed!

My DH did mention that he'd seen this Hoover model, so I guess we'll have to do some research before we buy anything.  Thanks for your personal input.  I use attachments everytime I vacuum, so ease of use is very important for me.

My rule is never to look under the furniture - too scary!  If you look then you must clean so i just don't look LOL.

[sm=lol.gif][sm=rofl.gif]  Isn't that why we HAVE furniture? To reduce the vacuuming area?!

Marty, i also have the hoover windtunnel self-propelled. Try changing your filter on the side...that will probably give you A LOT more suction. I sold vacuums at Sears for many years, and the filter is almost always the problem. The dyson IS an awesome vacuum, all models being the same, except for attachments. I always had tons of customers who were thrilled by it. However, it is not my first vacuum choice. I prefer kenmore canisters...i just can't get into the whole bagless thing. The dyson empties out of the bottom, which is nicer, but you still have to take the outside part off and clean the honey comb thing out every now and then. Plus, with the canister, you can get underneath your furniture, and it even has a stair grip and turbine tools for stairs and cars...you should check it out! :)

Hmm. I'm not sure I know what filter you are talking about.  My instruction book says to clean a tiny little filter underneath the bag...and nothing else.  I checked it, and it is clean. Is there another filter I should be looking at?

yeah, if you have the same model as me. It's kind of a silvery gray color. On the opposite end that the hose is attached to, there should be a black thing that says something about 3m filtrete...you can just pull that towards you and a little white foamy thing should be in there
