i'm thinking Germany might take it this year...

    if not...go brazil go...

I suppose I should say England, but with Rooney still not up to scratch, Beckham past his prime and Owen hurting his knee last night, I just don't see it happening.  Brazil get my vote.

    USA! USA! USA!

My husband took mornings/afternoon's off the day of their games. Does anyone else think the refs are a little too liberal with the red cards this year?  I seriously thought they were going to run out of them in the US vs Italy match on saturday!

yep too many red and yellow cards. slows the games down and seems they are willing to give them out for even a small infraction.

i would love to even see USA advance to the next round, but that doesnt look likely. i havent seen too many games, but i think the best team i have seen play so far was argentina. i also enjoyed seeing trindad and tobago tie with sweden.

    It could still happen:

For the Americans to advance, they must defeat Ghana in their last game. In addition to beating Ghana, the U.S. team needs one of these scenarios to take place:

    1. Italy defeats the Czech Republic.

    2. Italy ties the Czech Republic 0-0 or 1-1 AND the United States beats Ghana by at least four goals.

    3. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by five or more goals.

    4. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by four goals AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Czechs do in their tie.

    5. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is six or more.

    6. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is five AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Italians do in their loss.

    7. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is five AND the U.S. team scores exactly two more goals than the Italians do in their loss AND the Americans win a drawing of lots by FIFA.

i didnt say it couldnt happen, but the way ghana played the czech republic we are gonna have a hell of a time beating them. plus, as hard as it is for me to say it (i love italy), they are gonna have a pretty hard time beating the czech republic too.

plus i thought in all the scenarios the US has to beat ghana. otherwise wouldnt we still be last in the group? we are the only team in our group that doesnt have a victory.

I know!  I have never SEEN so many cards.  What's up with that.

And yes, of course I would love USA to take it....but I think they have an uphill battle. Argentina has been playing AMAZINGLY well.  Best team of the tournament so far.  I can't believe England tied Sweeden.  I thought it was over for sure with that second goal by England....

Of all the sports on TV I think that soccer is the most interesting.  Maybe its because I played it and understand the strategy and the feeling of legally slide tackling someone(now that's fun!).

And yes I know it will be hard for the US to move forward, but I try to remain optimistic. Though you're probably right...

I agree.  I also think that soccer requires an INCREDIBLE amount of athleticism.  Having played it myself I am amazed at what those guys can do.  I find it so beautiful that it almost brings tears to my eyes...

Oh, and by the way, my step mom is Brazilian, which is another reason that I am voting for them.  If not for them, I would remain positive for USA all the way!!!

I'm psyched to watch tomorrow.  I'm waking up at 6AM to do so.....[:)]

    well USA is now out.[:(]

i guess i will be rooting for Italy now.

Ooooooh don't get me started on the England/Sweden game.  There is a general belief here that our England coach is not, shall we say, objective, when England play Sweden.

Bloody Sven....I will be soooooooo glad when he goes.
