    I live in Chicago, Illinois

I live in Springfield, IL.  We don't even consider Chicago part of the state. [:)]

The governor of Chicago, my hero, right after Bill Clinton, apparently has no idea where Springfield is.  Chicago is NOT the capital of Illinois.  Somebody needs to whisper that in Rod's ear.

One thing that is absolutely true about Illinois is we have the crookedest politicians in the country.  Every one of our crook governors tries to outdo the crook before him.  And that is a hell of a challenge, after Ryan, but Baloneybitch certainly is doing his very best.

I have lived in many parts of this great country.  The eastern part of the US is beautiful and rich in history.  Texas has more beautiful women than any other state.  Colorado, well, I would move back there in a second.  I lived in New Jersey for awhile and, for sure, it ain't nothing special, but Illinois is much worse.  I hate it here, but I am stuck, for now anyway.

Thanks for asking, Billy. I was going to ask but sometimes my droll sense of humor gets taken literally.

This is the best entertainment I have had all day!

I am a native Oregonian and can tell you, we are NOT all Birkentsock-wearing, Subaru-driving nut cases! We also aren't all loggers who want to eat every Spotted Owl out there.

We have some of the most desolate desert in the US (check out the Steens Mountains area in SE Oregon--you can drive for HOURS and see NOBODY).  Whne you're in SE OR, it's not unusual to see herds of antelope or mustangs (the four legged variety) in the distance.  We even saw antelopes grazing with the cattle.  I don't know if they were trying to blend in, but someone needs to tell them they aren't fooling anyone--NO breed of cow has horns like that!! LOL

I am always disgusted to see cowboy wanna-bes. We have plenty of the real thing!  If a guy tells you he's a cowboy and he's wearing Levis, you can pretty much bet he's a wann-be.  REAL cowboys wear WRANGLERS, for God's sake![:@]

I live in a unique area of Oregon, on th every edge of the very, very fertile Willamette (pronounced Wll-AM-et) valley. Since we are in Oregon's wine country, we have lots of wine snobs who show up each weekend to "do the wine tour thing". With all of our agriculture, we also have two feed stores in town and yes, you CAN buy a manure spreader within five miles of my house as well as a world class Pinot Grigio! On days when the wind is just right, I can smell the dairies as well as the very, very expensive horse spreads.

When I tell people I live just a short ways from the beach, some folks have the gall to ask me, "which ocean (or sea[8|])?".ACK. Hmmmm, just how many oceans are there around Oregon?  Maybe it's one of those islands that floated away when California fell into the sea (or ocean!).

We also have our share of weirdos in this state, just like every other state out there.  Some of our politicians are great, some are NOT.  Anyone remember our beloved senator, Bob Packwood?   He couldn't keep his hands (or anything else!) to himself! During the 1920s, Oregon was a state with a very high number of KKK members.  I can still remember as a kid when several small towns had "sundown laws" still in effect in the late 1960s/ early 1970s. We also have our share of white supremacists.  Shudder---can't they all just quietly GO AWAY???

Any way, if you guys are coming this way, just LMK--I am a font of info about our lovely state!

Oregon is one state I have never been to.  Are you close to Seattle?  [:)]
    • Gold Top Dog
    I just remembered something...

When answer the age old question "where are you from" on the internet, especially in chatrooms, I've been asked both "Where's Vermont?" and "What state is Vermont in?"

I haven't seen that much of Oregon, but what I have seen I'm impressed with.  We have friends in Crescent City, CA & when we go there (if it's not winter & the roads aren't closed) we take I-5 up to Grants Pass and drive back down to CA.  Last time we did that, traffic was stopped in both directions because of rock slides.  They actually came and set up outhouses along the route and passed out bottled ice water to people waiting in cars. I can just see CalTrans doing that! [:D][:D]

    .....and ketchup flavour potato chips......

    Kate

You mean you still can't get those down there?  You poor things.  My son's favourite are Ketchup Chips.  Old Dutch Ketchup Chips.  I remember we used to have to take cases down to my Uncle when he lived in St Paul.

Joyce, Timbits are from Tim Horton's.  Robin's Eggs are from Robin's Donuts.  They are all Donut holes.  But Timbits are the best.

Well I live in Australia, so most people outside of Australia think we have kangaroos jumping around in our backyards- I wish we did, Kangaroos are great. They think Australia is one big desert- it does snow here.
And they think we all talk like Steve Irwin, we sound nothing like him
Oh and the classic Australian person wears flanelette shirts, boardshorts and thongs (the shoes). Nope, not at all.
Yeah its quite annoying when people just assume we're like that.

I have heard of a couple from... I think New Jersey (but location is irrelevant) look at a horse and say "Oh look, a cow!"

    Need I say more? lol

And I bet people always ask you to put another shrimp on the barbe.

Hmmmm.  That all Minn-ah-SOH-tahns talk just like the characters in the movie Fargo or in Lake Woebegone!  Some do, for sure, you betcha!  But it's more prevalent closer to the Canadian border and rarely heard in the Twin Cities.

That is snows prodigiously......I wish!  Had far more snow when I lived in upstate NY - particularly western NY on Lake Erie.  Ah....how I miss lake effect snow!

That it gets ridiculously cold in the winter.  OK, so that part's true - but it's usually just really breif bouts. That it never gets much above 60 degrees.  Not true - it gets above 70, above 80, above 90 and only rarely above 100.

And, for the sake of clarity, there are considerably more than 10,000 lakes in MN. I believe there are 22 in Minneapolis.

My sister lived in the twin cities for many years.  I believe Eden was the last place.  She had a thing about turning 50, so she didn't.  Dropped dead of a heart attack a month before her 50th b'day.

When WE were there, late July, when she died, it was hotter than the hinges of hell-o.  Mid 90's, humid and absolutely miserable.  So THAT one I wouldn't believe, although she DID complain about getting a ton of snow.....

Ahhh, I was born and raised in Kentucky. I'm sure you've all heard the horrible things about KY. We're uneducated (everyone in my family has been to college), we don't wear shoes, don't have teeth, we dont have plumbing, we all play banjos, and we all hunt for our food. I've seriously been on vacation before and had people asked me if i wore shoes! I've also had people asked me if i was poor (yes, that's why MY car is nicer than your parent's). We do have our share of rednecks though...try going to a county fair. In far eastern ky, in the mountains, you may find some interesting folk...but here in central ky it's really nice. You'd actually be quite surprised at the amount of upper upper class here in lexington. I do ride a horse, my mom and i both drive trucks, and we have a bit of a southern drawl...but by no means are we rednecks! Kentucky is really a beautiful place, with tons of beautiful thoroughbreds! Once people visit though, they really like it, and i always get compliments of how warm and friendly kentuckians are :)
