Continental Kennel Club

    Three registries I would deal with ...
    AKC-American Kennel Club(all of my dogs are registered)
    UKC-United Kennel Club(My oldest Am Staff is dual registered)
    CKC-Canadian Kennel Club

    Champion parents show that the pups come from two dogs who were shown to their championship and show merits of the breed and through several events won over enough dogs to be a champion.

     It gets a little tricky when you are looking at pedigrees and reading ads. Champion bloodlines usually means that Champions are in the pedigree but they might be in the fourth generation. If the parents aren't then the grand-parents should be.
    I also suggest asking about health testing when considering purchasing a dog..no breed of dog is without health issues in the breed. You can usually find this information through the parent clubs website..like the Boxer club of America

    @glenmar

    As I understand it, they'll register just about anything, purebred or not.

    And yes, AKC does register puppy mill pups, but they also do have a tiny enforcement arm and WILL check out at least some of the millers and they HAVE withheld registration in some cases. They are basically just a registry, but at least with AKC you can find a history of the pup and his parents and their parents back for many generations. Not so with CKC.....

    Glenmar, CKC does not register just about anything. We register more breeds than other registries, yes. But even this has its limits. There is also a very strict evaluation process for dogs to be registered without paperwork. We also enforce proper breeding standards like AKC.

    @minimom

    And also, I think that their name was chosen to intentionally confuse people and make them think they were getting a dog registered with the real CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).

    minimom, this is a myth about CKC and a complete falsehood. The choosing of the name Continental Kennel Club had nothing to do with the Canadian Kennel Club or confusing people. In fact, both clubs have trademarked the acronym "CKC" and each club has agreed upon standards for using the trademark as to not confuse anyone about which organization is being represented.

    A friend of mine has an African Grey Parrot, who is a CKC registered Dachshund. She wanted to see if she could.

    The CKC is a joke. They'll register anything.

    The Canadian Kennel Club is fine. The Continental Kennel Club is a seller of fancy papers.

    Your friend registered a parrot with CKC? This is a blatant, impossible lie.

    Might I just point out that you are responding to an EIGHT YEAR OLD thread?  Other than myself, none of the folks you are quoting are even here anymore.

    Yes, glenmar I do understand this. Responding to these comments is an effort to clear up myths and rumors about CKC. Although none of these people other than you are still here, others all over the web can still see it, therefore I felt it necessary to respond. Thank you!
