I don't know if anyone of you have something like this nearby, but today we took Russell to a place called the "Laundromutt," a grooming salon where you wash your own dog and pay for the use of the big doggie sinks, grooming tables/tools and blow dryers. They offer packages ranging from just a $5 rinse off your dirty dog and towel dry deal to the Uber spa package which includes specialty shampoos, conditioner, and blow dry for $22.
Late last night Russell went running around in wet, dewy underbrush and got covered in mud and burrs. So we took him in to the Laundromutt this morning and got the "uber" deal. Usually we bathe him at home and let him drip dry for a million hours. The Laundromutt experience was pretty nice - it's certainly not cheaper than just dropping him off at the groomers, but there was something nice about doing it all ourselves, not to sound cheesy but it felt like a nice bonding experience for the three of us (me, boyfriend, and dog). The people there were super friendly and the whole process was nice and smooth, no wait time or anything. We were joking that we should open this kind of business when we move to Omaha - it seems pretty low-overhead and is a nice service to provide for dog owners!
