OUCH!

    OUCH!

Does anyone else ever get the feeling that the way to get your SO/DF/DH/DW etc etc to do anything is to nag them until they think it was their idea?

I have been asking my SO for almost a year if we could replace our mattress.  Yeah, we will at some point, he'd say.  I have now been sleeping on the couch for 2 weeks because the darned thing is so uncomfortable I can't fall asleep on it.  So today I wake up, play with/feed Ben, clean the house, make lunch, ;play with/feed Ben, do some gardening, play with Ben (notice a trend? LOL) and all of a sudden, while I was sitting down for 5 minutes, SO says "hey, let's go buy a new mattress!" I ask my dad over to look after the puppy and off we go, returning home an hour later having purchased a lovely, oh-so-comfortable new bed, which will be delivered on Tuesday.  I play with/feed Ben again, go out and do yet more gardening, make dinner...finally, I was so exhausted I just wanted to sleep in my bed and thought I would be tired enough to ignore how uncomfortable it is.

    WRONG.

I got into bed, was just nodding off and rolled over and THREW MY BACK OUT!!  I am now in sooo much pain and can't sleep at all, be it on the couch or anywhere else.  It hurts to walk or do anything.

    Roll on Tuesday....

Oh Kate, I'm sorry to hear that!

Isn't that just the way of it though???

Ugh, I'm sending good sleeping vibes across the pond for you.

I think on Tuesday you should take up the whole bed and make your SO sleep on the couch. That'll teach him! [:D]

    Feel better soon!

I know the feeling, although I have learned how to do it without nagging since that usually gets me nowhere.  I am able to plant an idea in a way not that he actually thinks it was his idea in the first place and I have no problem letting him take 100% credit for it as long as I am getting what I wanted in the first place.  It has taken years of practice and my dad is really the one I learned how to do it on!  Sometimes we just have to hold our ground though!  Glad you finally get to get a new bed though...You can't beat that!

Ugh! What a pain. Hope you feel better.

Oh, Kate, that absolutely stinks!  Feel better soon!

I know how you feel. We have a poopy mattress, we bought a cheaper one because I wanted a bigger bed. It gets cramped with hubby and usually  akid or two popping in. So we buy a cheaper one and it's not too bad but not great, so I bought a duvet mattress cover. Now it's like sleeping in heaven.

I hope your back is better real soon. 1 more sleep to go and you will be on the nice one.

I know the feeling I had to sleep on a mattress that was 13 yrs old and finally my mom broke down to get me a new bed since I wasn't working then.  Before she finally broke down to get me a new bed I had spent the last two years asking for a new bed and was sleeping on the floor the two weeks before getting a new bed. Now I have a comfortable full size bed that I only get to enjoy an inch of it due to a bed hog named Blue.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone.  After a few doses of anti-inflammatory painkillers I feel a little better, though running around after Ben today has been a bit tough.  SO will be home soon and I'll have a soak in the bath while he plays with the puppy.  One more sleep...ooooh.....I have a feeling I will be taking a nap tomorrow just for the pure pleasure of sleeping in a comfy bed.

SO was funny last night though...lying in bed saying "oh I can't wait until we have our new mattress"......LOL...he could have had that feeling a year ago if he wasn't so stubborn.  Ah well, as someone else said, I have gotten what I want in the end. [:D]

If I disappear for a while tomorrow it's because I have gone to sleep for 3 days.  Hehehehe.

I can relate, my bed is terrible!  I bought a foam pad for my bed and I also sleep on top of a layer of pillows or I wake up so pinched and aching I can hardly move.  I guess I am a big sissy girl I gotta have a squishy comfy bed.  It was ten times worse when I was pregnant.  Mountains of pillows including between knees.  Oy!!   Jules

    This hits home for me...

Since my bf bought this house a yr. ago, he has said his priority was to insulate the attic so we could have the whole upstairs as our bedroom.  Right now it was just too hot/cold.  Well, a yr. later and it is not done yet.  We had been using his really old mattress and eventually he decided to move my newer one upstairs out of the dining room.  Well... it didn't fit up the steep stairs.  However, his old crappy one was able to almost fold in half (and we cut the box spring in half and then put it back together once upstairs) and get up the stairs.  Well, now we are still downstairs but at least we're on my more comfy bed.  His isn't horrible with my featherbed on it too :). I still can't wait to get upstairs.  The progress is happening, just very slowly!

Anybody ever try one of those *sleep number* beds they advertise on TV? I'm tempted to check into whatever hotel it is that uses them and try one out. They're probably outrageously expensive, but they sure look comfy.[:)]

I saw those sleep number beds advertised on TV when I was on holiday in the US in early May.  They haven't made it over here yet, as far as I know, but they do look mighty cool.

One more night, the countdown begins.  I am halfway tempted to go out tomorrow and buy myself new sheets to celebrate the new mattress, lol.

Thanks for the good vibes, I think they are working.  [:)]

Oh Kate I know what it's like to sleep on a not so comfy mattress.  I like it firm but with a pillow top because I don't want to sleep at an angle when BF comes to bed.  We slept on his bed and it sucked.  It was soft and squishy the way he liked it but I felt like I was sleeping on a hill because he was at the bottom of it!!!

One of the women in my agility class has a sleep number and she said it's the best thing in the world.  That will be our new bed in a few years but our current one is only 6 years old....

DH and I slept on a mattress that was so uncomfortable when we were first married and it was just this mattress on the ground, no bed, no box spring...  I know we were young (still are) but this one was bad.  (ah yes, the rice and eggs days - its all coming back to me now...) I would actually have marks from where the springs would be poking me all night!  Ew I hated it so much!  Not only would it poke you if you were not very careful about how and where you moved, it was a big hole in the middle.  We both ended up smashed together right in the center when we woke up and trying to get comfy facing a certain way was like trying to sleep sideways on a hill.

I too, resorted to the couch until we got a new king sized bed and mattress.

I hope you back feels better soon!!  And have a good sleep tonight![:D]

My mom has one of those Tempurpedic beds and loves it but my dad hates it.  They are thinking of getting a sleep number bed too.  I think they are VERY expensive, but if it gets you a good night sleep is worth it if you can make it work.  I want one too, but ours is only 2 years old.
