    Attention Old Car Nuts

I used to have a 53 Buick Roadmaster that was gorgeous. I wish I had never sold it. But that's in the past....

For years I've been wanting another classic car, and hoping to get another Roadmaster. There's an old collector feller up here who's finally selling off his stuff. Much of it has been parked out in the woods for years. I went out to look at Buicks and well, it was kind of like going to the dog pound thinking you wanted a german shepherd and ending up with a golden retriever/pit bull mix. I fell in love with THIS guy:

Thats real nice.  Looks like it'll need some work, but overall its in nice condition for somehting that has been outside for years.  Some paint, and a new window and it'll be in good shape.  I can't tell, are the tires flat all around?
    • Gold Top Dog
Nope don't think they are flat. I love those wide sidewalls, too! I am assuming I'll need new tires though.

It will need some work in the interior, but the rest of the seats may well be found in a storage space or another vehicle.

It's a 63 Rambler, only was run for two years and then parked. Only has 36, 000 miles on it! More damage was done by the woods than anything else, and the car next to it has the window it needs. [:D]

I'm actually getting another Rambler, same year, a station wagon that I well may be able to drive away once we cut the trees away from it.

The car club guys think I'm so silly, wanting the Ramblers, but hey, they are cool! I was going to get a Buick, but there were only Specials, and I'm a Roadmaster type of gal.

The fella that owns them hates Ramblers, so I will probably end up with all four that are out there! If folks are interested I'll post pics of what they look like as I restore them. I'll only restore the two, I think the others will be good for parts, though.

I really like the Nash/Studebaker look to the one I posted pics of. It's definitely got that heritage.

Definetly post pics.  Its a really nice car all-around.  Whats the interior like?  Is it cloth or leather seats?  From what i can see they look like they're black.  Are you going to keep the same paint job on the outside?
    • Gold Top Dog
Cloth/vinyl seats, and are missing the seat cushions, though the seat backs are there.

I really like the black and red. Believe it or not, it is quite the sporty little thing. Somehow "sporty" and "Rambler" don't really seem to go in the same sentence, but it's true!

I did clear all the leaves off but forgot to take a picture of it afterward. It is way out in the woods, so I won't be getting back there until my boyfriend can go up with me and we see how we are going to drag them out of there.

Anyone else have antique or classic cars or belong to a car club?

    Our club is here:http://local.aaca.org/fairbanks/

Take that baby home and make it whole again!  You MUST do this--we need another rambler back on the road!
    • Gold Top Dog
I certainly intend to have that one, and another BOTH running. I'm supposed to go drag it out of the woods this weekend, but I'm having trouble being able to get in there with my boyfriend, who is so very busy with work (he only works in the summer when you can do construction).

I'll take more pics next time I go up there for sure.

I don't blame you, is that moss growing on the roof?  I hope I don't get so old that I grow moss on top of my head.  Should be fun restoring that baby.  Just don't name it Christine.  Jules

Yah know, I'm not into naming cars. (Shhhhh, don't tell my boyfiend, he names all his vehicles and insists I name mine!)

We had the antique car show this weekend and I got to see my favorite favorite car. I fell in love with it last year, and I realized this year that I'm even more infatuated this year. It's a gold Studebaker Avanti. It's incredibly beautiful. They just don't make them like that anymore! And the best thing is that the woman who owns it, and who is now elderly, used to RACE CARS IN ALASKA! I mean, how great is that? [:D] Racing cars is gutsy, but racing cars in Alaska, well, I didn't know people even DID that way back when!

Here are a couple of pictures that look just like her car. I think it's just gorgeous. I think I'm turning into a Studebaker nut....

Pretty dang cool.  I'm a freak for the old valiants, chargers, 'cudas, early mustangs, most early muscle cars.  What is great is that you don't need computers to fix em.  I can get under the hood and do lots of work myself from years of watching (and annoying the hell-o out of) my dad.  I paid cash for my first car; a ragged,  rundown plymouth duster.  I immediately took it home and did a tuneup and oil change on it and started washing and detailing.  It was sooo much fun and my dad nearly had a heart attack when he found out I put the car up on ramps and changed the oil all by myself.  ( I hate to say it, but I think he thinks I'm a dummy and/or inept). At that point I decided not to tell him I did a brake job on it lol..  My car now is computerized, and I hate it! It's all chips and sensors and stuff.  Blek!  I can't do very much on it and I don't really have that much time either.  *sigh*   Get lots of pix, so I can follow along.  Jules

I'm brand new to the "old car nut" scene, but here just the same!!  Look at what I brought home last night, It is all original, but needs some restoration, but it runs like a dream and rides smoother than a caddy, so I'm happy with it...my first restoration project!! so start shelling out the tips for the newbie...

oh ya, it's a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 4 door, with a stock 292  motor(what ever that means) with 61,000 original miles on it.

This thread makes me miss the little Nash Metropolitan I had long, long ago in another life.[:D] I can't remember what country it was made in but I think the parts were Italian.  The windshield wipers were electric and they worked fine until they got wet - when it rained, they shorted out and the only way I could see where I was going was to roll down the window and stick my head out.  Used to drive my mom nuts. There really wasn't any back seat, but if we stuck the back (which led into the trunk) down, my best friend and I could cram 6 sailors back there. And we did, quite often.[:D]

Those Metropolitans were the silliest cars! There are still quite a few of them around.

Whatsonemore, you are going to have lots of fun with the Ford Galaxy! Congrats!

Tomorrow morning I go see my cars again and I'll take more pics. I HOPE Saturday we can get them out of the woods and home.

Joyce, my dog Mack says that he wants that car if you still have it or know where it is lol....he says that any car that you get to stick your head out the window to see and drive must be 'The Bomb'.   He says that he would pay weekly installments of kibble and raw eggs.  Jules

Tell Mack I WISH I still had that car.[:D]  When DH & I got married we traded it in for something that was actually designed to hold more than 2 people. It was a silly little car, but it only cost me $8 a month for gas - yeah, you're reading that right.  $8 a MONTH & I did a LOT of driving around ... but that was a loooong time ago, too.
