Anyone know about ducks

A friend came by this morning and dropped of this duck, he found it in his yard and 2 dogs were ripping the feathers off. I'm trying to figure out what kind it is and if it's a hen or drake. I have Call ducks, which are very tiny, so i don't know if this big guy/girl will beok in there.

Looks like a slate colored (edited in: baby/younger) Muscovy. They're awesome birds. Sorry, I do not know how to sex a duck though.

It looks like a hen to me. Most of the males have a lot more of the red, and it's a deep color. But it could be a juvi... Are you keeping it? I've seen all kinds of ducks live together. Put it in with your others and watch. If things turn ugly, remove it.

Is it quacking? Like the aflack duck?? The female's quack like an aflack duck, males do not. Becca (hasn't made it here yet, is moving) has a ton of ducks and told me this. Thus, the aflack duck is actually a GIIIIIIRRRRL!!!

Ok I have confirmed that she is indeed a she. She is doing great with my ducks. It's funny because my B'day is next week and I have been asking for an incubator. So I was telling my dad about our new duck and he says "well looks like you got your incubator. Muscovy's are great layers" So Ms. scovy will be hatching out our Call ducks this year. [

lol Angel, I was about to say it looked like a female because the males usually have more of the gobbler stuff hanging from their faces and have a crest on top of their heads. These ducks are messy but ok as far as ducks go.

I do have some experience with a duck. A few years ago a few friends and I went boating. As we were going along in the water we nearly ran over a poor mallard duck who was just floating there and didn't fly away. We turned around and scooped him up, he was injured and his back seemed to be broken, as well as one wing wasn't doing so well, lots of the feathers were gone from the wing so the poor duck was unable to fly away. We lovingly named him Marvin and we kept him at our campsite with us, and eventually took him home with us. We fed him lots of raw fish and bread and water and within a few weeks he was good as new and actually flew away

I dont know if this would help much, but when I saw your post it reminded me of little Marvin and I thought I'd share with you.
