The only word on that list that I found that I mispronounce was

    mawv
    mauve
This word has not moved far enough away from French to assume an English pronunciation, [mawv], and should still be pronounced [mowv].

I'm constantly correcting people when they're talking to me.  My dad drilled proper grammar and pronunciation into me when I was a kid, it makes me cringe to hear all of the words on that list mispronounced.  Especially escaped and especially, there's no 'x' people!

At least somebody's bringing light to the situation. [:D]

I plead guilty to a couple of these mispronunciations, but this one had me ROFL.   [sm=rotfl.gif]

                Heineken remover         Heimlich maneuver

However, I guess that removing someone's beer bottle could be a life saving act for some people.  [;)]

    AH HA!
I KNEW that when I pronounced the "h" in the word "herb" for the first 18 years of my life, I was CORRECT IN DOING SO.

When I was 18, an ex-boyfriend's sister laughed her butt off at me when I said herb and not 'erb.
Made me feel like a COMPLETE idiot thinking I had been mispronouncing the word my entire life.
BUT I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG.

I have to disagree on the "duck tape vs duct tape" one...I think if one is using Duck brand duct tape, it is ok to say "duck tape." For my Voice for the Actor class, I had to get Websters Standard American English Pronouncing Dictionary. It was really fun to look through.

Monday is supposed to be pronounced "mun-di"

And you're right, chewbecca, "herb" is correct, but "'erb" is also acceptable.

One thing that drives me crazy is when people add a syllable to my name...It's "Ash-ley" not "Ash-a-ley." [8|]

    How about these two:

    Nuclear:  often pronounced Nuke-u-ler.  It's Nuke-lee-ar people!

Or how many times has someone axed you a question?

In the auto world I hear things like "Thermostat" pronounced "Sterm-o-stat." I've heard a Kia Sephia referred to as a "Saffron."  Or a Sportage referred to as a "Spor-ta-jay."  It's Korean, not french!  How about the people that drive an Isuzu "Radio" (all this time I thought you listened to the Radio in your Rodeo!)  And then there's the guy from the hills that calls his Isuzu an "Ooo-Zoo."

Just to clarify, these are only mispronounciations from native American English speakers.  From my non-native English speakers I have a whole other host of miscommunications.  Some of them end up in our Parts Counter vocabulary....

Every time I hear Dubbya say this, I cringe.  You would think that someone would have told the leader of the free world that he had this one wrong.

Realtor is one that makes me batty to hear.  Don't know where the extra "a" came from.  I'd add "comparable".  So often mispronounced that the mispronunciation is becoming the norm.

its funny that some of these mispronounced words i learned to pronounce properly came from the tv....
Duck Tape... ok brand name aside ... i was a kid watching Tool Time and Tim the Tool Man Taylor lectured his wife on "its. DUC"T" Tape.. not DUCK tape."
and there was another movie called Mister Boogity from the 80's about a scary pilgrim poltergiest *yes it was a comedy*
and the family was staying the night in their new house, which was haunted by the pilgrim. the dad wanted to camp out and keep the house but his wife enunciated "TIME - to - call - a - REAL-TOR" tapping her lips with her finger on each beat lol
so ever since then ... thats how i pronounce those words at least.

southern dialect can ruin a lot of words... but.. Monday is really pronounced Mondi?? for real?? you mean all this time the old timers were right and i have been rolling my eyes for nothing? i grew up with them saying Mondi, Tuesdi Thursdi..etc.

language is just fun lol and i cant help but laugh when people get *cough* pernickety about bad grammar lol i am a history freak and have noticed how languages change and morph over time... depending on how broad the community melting pot is.
and i just love accents.... i met a Russian years ago, and friends were explaining traditional southern breakfasts, grits, eggs, bacon.. all he could say was "Vat eez a Greet?" ....too cute!

The days of the week are supposed to have the 'i' sound as in the word "did" not like "day" or "dee." It threw me for a loop when I first learned it...and then I heard Jeff Foxworthy saying it correctly...woah...that was weird.

My dad was from Georgia and he said "Ah cain't" - my mom was from Boston and she said "I cawn't" and they both constantly corrected me for saying "I can't."  Go figure.

Aw, that list isn't fair though since it includes pronunciations that are a matter of accent - as I would consider 'herbs'.  I thought it would have interesting stuff like "mute point" (moot point).  I confess, 'expresso' drives me nuts.

The word I hear mispronounced all of the time is "stolden". Everyone around here says stolden instead of stolen.

What about lit-er-ature vs. lit-it-ture? I said "lititure" until high school when my "friend" constantly hounded me about pronouncing it correctly. To this day I can't stand when it's pronounced like I used to. [8|]

One of my profs would say cumulative as ca mUle U tive.  Used to drive me up a wall!  And this woman had degree coming out her ears.
