old vs young

I assure you, I would be FAR from offended..  You see, while I certainly don't know everything, I do know enough to know that people who are older than I am have a different perspective on things because of their life experiences.  I appreciate that difference in perspective and I want to draw from that and I want to learn from that.

Let me add that when I was 20, I most certainly did know everything.  I get dumber as I get older.  [;)]

I am your age (bracket) & let me assure you I know ppl older then us that no way in he** do I want their advice or teaching - I am better in my knowledge than they will ever attempt to be.  I love my age, it took long enough to get here.  I agree that @ 20 I thought I knew everything, as I have aged I know better both then & now.  I also came to realize that I do not want to know everything.

My practically mother-in-law calls me for dog advice. I call her for financial or home-related advice. We can all learn from each other if we're brave enough to put aside our prejudices and listen [:)]

i agree with you Rolenta. 100%.. are you a product of your environment or of the choices you make?
not all older people are smart , and not all smart people are old. and i resent the whole "you're too young to understand" crap. you know what that tells me? that the person who said it is too danged lazy or ignorant to explain things clearly.

I totally agree. If someone gets to the age of 50 and the only way they know how to prove a point is to say, "I'm 50, which makes me right!" it just shows they haven't learned a better way to make a decent argument!

Thank gawd I've never met one of those people.

For the record, I'm 21 and I have never felt my intelligence belittled on this forum.  Of course, I can concede that at my 21 years, I don't know everything, and never will.  And as someone said (forgot who, sorry) if I know at 30 only what I know now and nothing more, there's a serious problem.

For what it's worth Rolenta, I've seen you several times in the last week or so misunderstand billy's sense of humor and make a comment like he is insulting or making fun of others such as in the MS thread. IMO this has very little to do with insulting anyone due to age, disability or anything else, but for whatever reason you don't get his sense of humor. It is true that getting his sense of humor isn't required, but now that you know how he is maybe hold off on the comments. If you really think about it, you have accused someone multiple times of being unfeeling or rude etc that actually just has a bizarre sense of humor. IMO that's just as not nice as actually saying some of the things he's accused of saying. I'm a young physician and I have NEVER been spoken down to due to age in any situation on this forum or in real life.

As far as the MS thing, I wasn't the only one, in fact he got red inked for it.

hmmm.. maybe I am wrong but I think he got red inked for something directed at DPU???? I think he even clarified his position on that thread AND apologized for any misunderstanding....

In my opinion, posts like this just show how young you really are. I think  all the nastiness around here lately is making people much more defensive than they need to be. . If you really feel like you are being treated with disrespect because of your age, the best thing to do is use the block option on those who have offended you. I haven't noticed anything that I would think is insulting to younger members. I have 3 teenagers and I have seen the " I know it all" attitude in 1 of them, the other 1 seems to have skipped that phrase and seems to realize with age comes experience in many things, the 3rd one is not quite old enough yet show me her true teenage colors. All people are different, all have different life experiences and all handle things differently. Instead of stomping your feet and complaining about the way you are being treated,, maybe it's time to ignore people  you think are disregarding you because of your age.
