Does Anyone Watch So You Think You Can Dance?

You know I really get sick of reality shows and by the end of American Idol I was so ready for it to be over. But this show (same producer) is fun, and not as long (# of weeks) as Idol. There are VERY talented dancers IMO (though I know nothing about dancing) this year. Tonight is the vote off, I really don't want anyone to leave (2 go each week). I also cannot decide who I want to win.

    I do! I do!

I LOVE this show! I started it watching it last season and couldn't WAIT for this season. To me, it's much better than American Idol. I love dance though so I may be somewhat biased. I love Simon on AI, but overall, I like the judges as a whole on SYTUCD much better.

Right now, my favorite guy is Pasha. I think that's my fav. I really like Cedric too, even though he's gotten bad feedback most of the time. For the girls, I like Sara the most and then Shawna.

I so look forward to this show every week!  I love watching how talented they all are.  Last night, i thought Pasha and Sara were fantastic, I could watch that dance over and over again!

Oh I like Pasha, and Sara. I also like Lacey, Anya, Hok...oh I will just list them all so I had better stop.

Cedric is good. I know why he has gotten the criticism BUT he really stepped up last night and I am glad Mary Murphy acknowledged him properly. That would never happen on Idol. He can move in amazing directions. My husband and I noticed yesterday his legs are a mile long. He is really trying, though it might be time for him to go. I was sorry Jesus went last week but oh well someone has to.

I started watching last year too. I loved Benjie but Travis Heidi and Donelle were good too. Did you see the part last night with Benjie the choreographer? Too funny. My husband said either this is going to be good or really bad. I thought he did great! But it was funny. I especially thought it would have been interesting if Lacey drew his dance style.

I too like the judges better. For the most part I feel they give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Useful information that will help the contestants. I really liked the guest judge from last night. I had to say I agree there is something like "arrogance" that eludes from Danny, it bugs me but that boy can dance. However I also agree Anya steals the stage from him.

I loved the guest judge last night (or "jidge" as Cat would say) - i bet he would be fun to go out and drink with.

And i agree about Danny, didn't they say that about him in the very beginning? i think Mia didn't like him at all because he was so cocky.

It's fun to watch though, and characters like Benji really make the show, and also it's interesting to see what a pervert Nigel is!

They did say that about Danny. They said he was very arrogant and I agree. I think he's a wonderful dancer, but he seems so emotionless. Like he doesn't really care what the judges have to say.

I agree that these judges offer more constructive criticism than Idol. I do think they single people out early on and mark them as their favorites, but they acknowledge when someone has done really well and most times, I think they aren't afraid to say when one of their "favorites" hasn't done so well.

Last year, I loved Allison and I loved Travis. I liked Benji a lot too.

I love this show too. I also wanted to be able to dance, but was to shy to even try. Not to mention, ankles that don't hold up well. Oh well, I can enjoy it through good dancers, and these guys are good!

On the subject of Danny, I don't think he is arrogant. I believe that he dances, not for the audience, but for himself - and he probably is a perfectionist, which is why his technique is so amazing. He needs to learn to turn the magic of dance that he feels outward and share it with others. Though I have to say, I rather like his style of dance. He is able to do such amazing things, and the remoteness that he conveys to me makes me enjoy the art of his dance instead of the performance of the dance. Make any sense?

I HATED the music for Neil and Jamie last night, however, the dancing was superb.

Unfortunately, none of these guys are "stand outs" to me this year :-/  RIGHT from Auditions last season, Benji, Travis, and Donyelle all REALLY stood out to me.  None of these guys really do.

However, I will say that I REALLY like Pasha, Hok (awesome, and I love the asian dude with the british accent, lol) and Kameron (Once Kameron finds his "magic" he'll be awesome).  As for the girl's the only one I really like is Sara.  The others really don't appeal to me (Lacey is great, but because she's Benji's sister, I've a feeling she'll be going near the end), and they sent my two favorites home last week (Jesus and Jessie, and I thought both of those were a rip).  Yeah, Neil and Danny had good solos, but Jesus was CONSISTENTLY showing awesomeness, and if anybody should have gone home, IMO, it should have been Neil.

Danny is a wonderful technical dancer (and apparently Travis' adopted brother), and I honestly don't see the arrogance they talk about.  Truly I don't.  What I see is this marvelous technical dancer who hasn't found the performer within himself yet.  Dancing is not performing...it's just dancing until you fall into the character.

Cedric I love for his style, but he won't last much longer.  Look at the proportions of his body.  Did any of you watch Clyde Drexler on Dancing With the Stars?  Cedric has a body like that.  Tall, lanky, and awkward.  Not his fault.  For the style of dance he does he is GREAT...but he's paired with these tiny girls and is performing movements he's never had to perform.  He's not clasically trained...his talent is just raw talent, but even so, he'd never be a great ballroom dancer.

His mambo impressed me when he got to the heel toe work :-)  Made me think back to Benji and Hedi's Black Mambo (that was my favorite dance of the season), and was it sloppy?  A bit.  But Cedric got in there and dug for it.  He decided he was going to make the effort, even if it was a bit choppy.  That's what Mary liked.

The guest judge last night was hysterical xD

I want Anya to go home.  I don't know what it is, but I don't like her at all.

I really like this show.  I'm not a big reality tv person, but it's a standout.  I really like Hok, though that may be partially his accent. *swoon*  I don't know who should go home tonight.  I'm not a big fan of Lacey's, but she did really well last night, I think.

Wow I'm glad I'm not the only one watching this show!

DH danced for many years and I knew him for a few of them so I've watched enough dancing to be slightly critical even though I have two left feet!

It's a great show, much better than Idol or (shudder) America's got talent (They keep people that are horrible and cut really terrific acts, I can't watch anymore)

I agree that Jesus going home a few weeks ago was a horrible unjust decision. I thought Neil should have gone too.

I don't agree with the last statement quoted above. Dancing IS about performing. Not JUST about performing, but it is a factor. I do think Danny is a beautiful dancer, with excellent techinique, but he lacks the performance aspect of it which makes his dancing fall short, IMO.

Oh I like Pasha, and Sara. I also like Lacey, Anya, Hok...

    I like those guys too!
I love the show but I missed it last night!!! Ugh!

I got hooked on the show last year and was even able to turn DH on to it! During the off season I found myself watching some of the shows agian in rerun. It's not about who wins or loses for me, it's about being entertained. Oh and I love Nigel Isn't it funny how being criticized with an English accent almost sounds like a compliment?

    I'm a big fan too....
I like Sabra and I like Pasha...
I liked the dance Benji (sp?) choreographed...

Dancing IS about performing. Not JUST about performing, but it is a factor.

But that's what I said xD

Danny is a great dancer, but he isn't a performer yet, and because he seems to lack that inner performer, he's great to watch technically, but otherwise he does little for me.

His brother, Travis, had both.  Travis was an OUTSTANDING Performer (remember that "nerdy" hip hop routine he did with Benji?) but his technique was great as well.  The thing that allowed Benji to win the competition was even though his technique was lacking a bit (and even the judges were aware of this) was his personality.

People like to watch other people dance, but being normal humans and not "behind the scenes" (though I used to be *Gasp* I was a ballet dancer for years), they don't much care if a dancer misses a step here or there.  They want to see the performance beneath it.  As long as the personality is there, we're generally more forgiving of mis-steps
