    TV Show Recommendations

I seem to be one of the rare members of society that doesn't have cable. What makes it even more blasphemous is that I am 25 years old and I CHOOSE to not have cable! Gasp!

However, this does leave me with practically nothing to watch during the summer months so what I usually do is pick a tv show and I buy it on dvd. Many of my favorite shows I have found this way. I recently became a HUGE Lost fan and am trying to convert everyone I know that doesn't currently watch it, to being a Lost nerd too. Most recently I was introduced to Nip/Tuck, which I am loving. I'm on season 2 now.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? Any favorite shows?

    Very few that I'd BUY.

Rome was great...Deadwood as well...those two I would. Both HBO series and both historical, bloody, and nasty and incredibly well acted. They're not shows as much as miniseries tho. 6 Feet Under was great.

I might do Seinfeld for something funny, Curb Your Enthusiasm...better.

Other things I might watch but I wouldn't "buy" them...Dresden Files, Hex, Footballers Wives...last 2 are BBC junk lol but good. My DH went Ape-poop over the newer Dr Who with the guy from Heroes in it.

If I think of more I'll post them.

    ETA:
Oh if I had $$ I'd buy a bunch of old britcoms:
    Red Dwarf
As Time Goes By (love Dame Dench!)
Waiting For God (Diana is my HERO!)
    Are You Being Served
    Fawlty Towers
    Monty Python
    ANY Blackadder series

Grey's Anatomy! [:D] (yeah I'm one of THOSE fans lol)

It's got lots of drama, humor, great acting, and cute guys (even tho most, ok all, are too old for me LOL). The new season starts this fall. (edited - but you can buy the ;previous seasons on DVD of course) I know my description sucks but it really is a great show IMO - it isn't any bit soap opera-ish, I can't stand those types.

kudos to you... if I had a choice my BF and I wouldnt have cable either.. haha thats his choice though. As far as shows go I dont know if they are out on DVD yet but

Weeds is great about a suburban house wife who's husband past away and to make ends meet she sells pot, its pretty funny, then her BF ends up being a DEA agent totally unrealistic but I think its funny.

The Tudors is AWESOME(watch out for boobs though, he was quiet the player[;)])
My BF got me hooked on The Unit has lots of great missions and there arent super dramatic like some military shows.

I actually do have Weeds Season 1 and I got caught up on Grey's Anatomy about two months ago. [:)] Both were shows that I just bought on whim at Best Buy, hoping they'd be good, and they were!

Wow Gina! Lots of British shows! I don't think I've ever really watched a British show. My co-worker recommended the British version of The Office to me. With all of your recommendations, makes me wonder if I'm missing out on some great comedy from the Brits. [;)]

I have a friend who LOVED Rome. I never watched it, but haven't heard a single bad thing about it.

And yeah, I'm one of those people who spends loads of money on dvd's, books and cds. Even when I can just burn a cd, I will buy it half the time. I love movies/tv so I have no problem spending moeny frivolously on them. If I end up not liking it, I just give it to someone else who might. I don't even try to resell it!

I don't have TV either. Got tired of paying for crap that I didin't watch. I do subscribe to Netflix. Love it! I think they have a free promotional thing.

LOL the Brit Office....oh dear....do NOT drink anything while watching because you will get it thru your nose. That show is...well FUNNY. Brits are much funnier than Americans IMO. I have felt that way since I was wee...lol. Also ad Absolutely Fabulous to the FUNNY list...those two gals were my idols when I was in my 20's. I fell out of many a car's pasenger side door in their honor! LMBO...

ETA: SHOOT...Forgot "Fry & Laurie"....Dr House...Hugh Laurie as his real self...one funny arse Brit! Stephen Fry is hilarious and together they rival Martin & Lewis IMO.

I swear Netflix is like the Library of Congress for movies and series obscure and well known.

BTW I thought Deadwood and Rome were amazing. Also liked 6 Feet Under, Sopranos, and The Wire. OMG The Wire is brilliant.

    Series I'm watching include:

    MI5
    Coupling
    Highlander
    Stargate Atlantis
    Stargate SG-1
    Space 1999

Just to name a few. My queue is over 100 items long.

HOUSE!  I also really like Gilmore Girls.  Those are the two TV shows I have on DVD.

I have Six Feet Under and The Gilmore Girls! Again, both shows that I bought on a whim! [8D]

Six Feet Under - I have only watched Season 1 so far. I have to make time to get back into that one. It's not something I feel I can watch and come back to sporadically. I loved it though. I had bought the first season myself and then for Christmas this last year, my mom got a GREAT deal on the entire series. She got it for $80.00 (in the grave box and everything). It's normally almost, if not, $200.00!

The Gilmore Girls  - I have all but the last season on dvd. I haven't seen the last season yet. I LOVE this show. I'm happy to hear that someone else does too because when I tell people I love this show, they just don't understand why.

Some recent recommendations from friends/coworkers have been Alias and Entourage. These ones are the two most common recommendations. Anyone watch either of these shows?

    No cable here either.

What I buy every year: CSI Las Vegas (I cannot stand the other ones)
Also got three or four seasons of Seinfeld.

I saw Rome on the shelves the other day. What makes it soo good ? I need something new to watch for the next couple of weeks too.
