Well, gosh, this will be a bit OT now........
The last time I bought a NEW car was either '79 or '80. It was a Mustang and I loved that car! My dad always bought Fords and I've never had issues with my Fords, nor with the few Dodges I've had. The couple of Chevy's.....oye! DH came with a Citation and that thing was a major PITA. We also had a Lumina van and that too was a PITA....so I'm not a Chevy fan at all.
I've also never bought anything other than "American", but I hadn't bought a vehicle since 2003 and dang, these days the American cars aren't made here anywho. One of these days my son will get around to rebuilding the engine that he blew out on my F250 and MAYBE I'll get a few bucks for selling it.....no one wants an 8 cylinder right now....any more than they want a 37 foot motor home! Gas is just too high.
Since I did actually finally take the plunge and buy new, and since I had wanted a Sportage for, oh, 12 years........I will say that having a 6 is really far less economical for me than I thought it would be. But, I WANTED the 4 wheel drive. After spending last winter sliding sideways half the time, no more rear wheel drive vehicles for me. The gas savings are still huge, but I still visit the gas pumps a lot. However, I have almost 3000 miles on a vehicle that I bought a month ago! DH on the other hand, drives the same 56 miles round trip every day, and he goes easily 10 days on a half tank of gas in the Spectra. His is a 4 cyl but you would NOT know it to drive it. But, again, I use my vehicle for work so I drive much of the day. Once I kick the cig habit, I'll probably start using his for the daily calls and save myself some gas money.
So, congrats on the new car! What fun it is to get a new one! But, yeah, 100,000 miles? Yikes....most of mine stick around for far longer than that!
