    Loveyou kaykay

Someone had asked this but you didn't see it and I was curious as well. How were you during Katrina?

Just curious, are you talking about Amy???

We were lucky.  We decided to stay which was a bad idea, but thankfuly got lucky.  we had LOTS of trees fall and one room of the house the door blew open and we literally couldnt close it back because it was broken so we had to leave it and close the more inside door to that room, and just replace that carpet and the things that were in that room.  Water blew under all of the doors leading outside.  I think every fence in our subdivision went missing, and we have a bunch of roof leaks.  Our neighbors car got smashed right next to mine, so that was good.. for us at least.  I have a lot of this on video tape cause we were standing in the windows watching the whole thing.  It was really cool seeing the trees fall and fences break and pieces of stuff fly by.

When it was over we had no power, no tv, no cell phone use, and nothing was open.  We were without power for 19 days.  We had to drive to Baton Rouge to get ice and food and gas.  Luckily the FEMA stations were around to provide MREs, water and ice.  My family was staying with us so my dad bought two big generators and a bunch of fans... it was HOT!  So, thats how we lived for 19 days.  We had to go every day to the FEMA station and wait in line for about 3 hours to get the things we needed, all we ate were MREs, sat by the fans... and were bored out of our minds.

We are all big beer drinkers so every few days we drove all the way to Baton Rouge to get more cases of beer, which took lik 7 hours to get there and about 4 hours back b/c Baton Rouge was the only city with gas and power and stores open.  Normally a there and back trip would tak about an hour and a half.  Waiting in line at the gas station was at least 3 hours for your turn.  Next time we will get the heck out of here... the storm wasnt so bad as the following month of trying to live like that.  We still have a tree in our yard the was twisted and fell, away from our house thank goodness, during a tornado that we say go right across out backyard.  Ill go take a picture right now and post it.  We just got our new roof about 2 weeks ago... the waiting list is so long.  Thanks for asking!

Yes, I ment Amy, I just didn't know if another Amy would think I was talking about her.

Amy you are very lucky, I feel for all of those people, it's so upseting. I could never imagine going through that. Thanks for sharing. I wish you all the best.

Thanks.  And heres just one pic of that one tree.  Doesnt nearly show the extent of the damage, I really wish I could figure out how to get video clips onto the computer so I can post links for them.

Amy, I'm glad you & your family were okay.  I was the one who asked how you fared.  I so love NO, the people & the spirit of the city that I felt like a close friend had died when the levies broke & flooded the city.
