Shelly - I am so jealous of your DH.  Would he be interested in training my DH in his BBQ techniques (especially the helping part!). LOL

Yeah! Same with mine? Does he give lessons?
Mine can cook hamburgers if I get sick and cannot make dinner (like I've been all week with these hives), but he cannot make a grilled cheese sandwich.
So, pretty much no matter if I'm sick or not, I'm stuck making dinner.

We called it Beer Can Chicken. Take a can of beer about half full and place in the cavity of the chicken. Set carefully on the grill. The flavor of the beer and the moisture will give the chicken a unique flavor. Another hint, don't use a bland middle of the road beer. Use one with a strong flavor to it.

I actually have a couple stands for this purpose. It makes it soo much easier.

I'm not huge on deer meat, give me moose anyday. Deer is to wild for my taste, but I do eat it if its cooked right.

Has anyone had deep fried turkey? We had it for Thanksgiving a couple years ago, but haven't had it since. I'm seriously considering buying a turkey frier, cause that bird was the absolute juiciest turkey I have ever tried IN MY LIFE!

i used bamboo skewers. soaked them in water beforehand. i shelled the shrimp the night before. put a little season all salt and dill weed on 'em, and covered them with italian salad dresssing. let 'em soak all night and all day. i put foil on the grill before i turned it on.

didnt take more than 5 minutes to cook them. the bamboo stayed cool so it  was easy to turn them. and they didnt stick to the foil.

I HATE seafood, but you just made some grilled shrimp sound REAL good.

We have a turkey fryer, we have deep fried turkey a couple of times. Personally I like turkey from the oven better and find it more work to deep fry it. It is much quicker though. We now use the deep fryer to cook lobsters in, it's fantastic for that.
My dh is a better cook than I am. I have more time so I do all of the cooking on the week days, he takes over on the week-ends. He enjoys cooking, I don't, I just cook because we have to eat.
We got a Jenn Air grill a few years ago, I like it, but we have to put an umbrella near it, all that stainless steel blinds you when the suns out, I can't see what I'm cooking half the time.  I love Haddock on the grill yummm

Yes.. he would be happy to give lessons and I will tell him to give my dog friends a generous discount on his services![;)]

Rebecca.. don't feel bad, the funny thing is that while I can cook well, I can't BBQ that great.  To do it well, BBQing requires more patience and care than I have. DH is is kinda slow in the kitchen so I give him specific tasks to do that I know I won't be annoyed if he doesn't do it the way I would. [;)]

He is happy as a lark basting and turning and rebasting and giving foods tender loving care. Since he is an engineer he also pays close attention to detail.  It truly is an art and one I can appreciate because i don't do it all that well. While I don't burn the food I cook, trust me that you would MUCH rather eat what comes off of his BBQ than mine.  If your hubby does burgers well.. then consider that a blessing as many people can't even get that right. It is delicious cooked that way, but a LOT OF oil and can be a bit messy. I actually have a brined turkey recipe that I make every year that comes out as juicy and wonderful as fried turkey so I haven't chosen to buy one yet but have thought about it in the ;past.

[:)]thanks bradley.  Maybe I need to marinade them longer to keep them moist or something.  This is the recipe I want to try:

but based on your technique, I am thinking maybe I will marinade all day rather than just 30 minutes like it states.

that recipe looks really good. it was my 1st try at doing the shrimp so i may have just gotten lucky.

i will say i bought them from a shrimper in charleston so they were super fresh. that may have helped too.

i guess i really am lucky..the "Rules" dont apply to me lol i really do get a night off when we grill ... if there is red meat of any kind it gets grilled and my husband is SUPER Snobby about red meat. he warns people that if they put steak sauce on a steak he cooks, they'll be wearing the sauce.. very prideful macho man when it comes to seasoning and cooking the meat. and he and i are funny about "steak night".... we dont usually cook much else to go with it except MAYBE some kind of green veggie.. or MAYBE a couple of potatoes. but it really depends on the size of the steak. i dont like warmed over/left over steak so i dont want to take up room in my stomach with other foods that dont taste nearly as good [8|] if the steaks are on the small side then i compensate with that other stuff....

we also dont invite my mom over for steak night anymore.... she isnt happy until that poor critter is shoe leather. waste of propane, waste of time, waste of good meat.... and if it isnt done enough for her... she'll microwave it and then drown it in steak sauce! if the meat is seasoned and cooked just right, you dont need the sauce. steak sauce was invented for folks that dont know how to season meat BEFORE its cooked.... in my humble opinion...

There is almost a cult like following for this grill:

I have been unable to talk my wife into letting me buy one.  So, this weekend, we are going to go look at one of these:

Still pretty pricy but I may have a chance with this one.

    Billy,

Before buying a BGE, check out the Grill Dome.  After reading the forum back pages there, I became convinced that it held in the moisture better than the BGE.  AND, it comes in red - varies, but usually GA Bulldog red, and cobalt blue as well as black and green, I think.

I heard over and over again, to go ahead and get the largest one b/c you don't really use that much more wood - so there's not a big waste and you will end up using the extra space at times.

Apparently, people put on butt roasts and things and let them cook all night.  They say to learn how to operate it first, then buy a "guru" (a little expensive) and it will keep the temp for you all night.  Woohooo....sounds good.

The drawback is you have to order it and be home when delivered and make the delivery guy wait while you unpackage.  The stuff comes from India, but the guy in Atlanta that owns the business, unpacks and checks everything out.  But, it can get damaged on it's way to you.  And, so you do have to verify no issues before the delivery guys leave.  And promise a friend some bbq to help you unload.  Putting it into a table is the way to go.    I am hoping to get one this year....................

edited: yeah the kumodos look good - well they aren't really my style a whole lot, but I considered them,  but I read of reports where the tiles would fall off.  And, can't really repair that very easily.

I LUV the Big Green Egg!  That's my dream grill.  A friend has one and it is the most awesome grill I have ever eaten from - I like my steaks well-done and with this one you can still cut it with a butter knife!   He told me he once put some shrimp on to cook and forgot about them.  He went back almost an hour later and even though they were definitely black - they were still juicy on the inside!

On the plus side too is the fact the outside stays cool even if the inside is 700 degrees!  Great when you have kids and dogs running around.

Keeping my [sm=crossfingers.gif] for ya!   I would really like the kamado (especially since we have no yard, just a large patio so this would be perfect), I would like to trade in the new plasma screen tv for the kamado but somehow I don't think DH will go for it...[8|]
