Burning Man

• thedoc617 Posted : 4/24/2007 9:46:37 PM OH! totally forgot about the theme.   This year the theme is "Green Man." which means we are being environmentally frendly this year on the playa. That means that the giant sound camps must run on energy efficient generators, and the fire performers must have ozone-approved fuel for their toys. Hence the name, there is a lot of people burning things out here.   Actually, this year will be my very first year (called the virgin year of all first timers), and all of my friends have taken pictures in the past. I guess cause I was looking at the gallery on the site and there is a pic of a spaceship (quite cool actually) with 4 legs and a circular rope ladder that "Beams" you up so you can climb around in the "Ship". • Michelle Posted : 4/24/2007 10:34:22 PM I've heard of Burning Man for years, but had no idea it was so commercialized. Gosh, it's got a board of directors and is an LLC! Seems kind of in direct opposition to what it was originally about, at least from what I've read of it. Maybe they're not "paving paradise", but from the pics and stories it looks like they're at least putting up a temporary parking lot, if you catch my Joni Mitchell drift there[]! • huskymom Posted : 4/24/2007 10:59:48 PM Well I suppose it is kind of commercialized. But in defence of the greater good... I think the point still gets across to the greater majority. And since there are more and more humans on the planet, the word needs to get out right? I'm assuming the greater good is peace, and humanity, whilst preserving the planet...well that and self expression...woodstockish. I'm sure there are a few people that feel protective of the event, and don't like that so many people go. I know how they feel in a way. I am the same way over certain things, this forum being one of them.
