I want to make my hubby an Easter basket this year and I need some ideas!!!

He LOVES LOVES LOVES candy - so I know I can throw a chocolate bunny and some peeps in there.  But I wanna make this a manly easter basket!

He loves fishing, is a home remodeler/contractor by trade, he enjoys reading, likes games...

Any good ideas for some small things to put in an easter basket?  :)

I am making my fiance a basket as well.  He likes fishing too so ill get some little fake worm type things for the hook.  Im also getting him some golf stuff.  Golf balls, glove, tees and a hat. Oh and candy of course.

I gave up on an Easter basket for my husband.  He's a cheap whad.  The first time I got him an Easter basket (before we were married) he liked what I got him but kept talking about how his family hasn't given him an Easter basket since he was 6, because it's a waste of money.  3 more Easters went buy and I continued to give him Easter baskets with the same response.  So, I just stopped giving him Easter baskets, until our first Easter as Husband and Wife - last year.  I gave him an Easter basket with candy.  He asked how much it cost [&o] - because now it's our money and it shouldn't be wasted on candy - not that he actually said that, but I know that's what he's thinking.  Sigh[&o]

I'm sorry but OMG what a JERK!!
i'm sure you love him a lot, and i probably shouldnt have said that, but wow thats just so rude to do that to someone.
So what, Easter Baskets ARE a waste of money... and they're childish -ie FOR children, but who cares? Its the same as any gift you recieve.... even if its lame and immature, you shouldnt ask how much it bloody costs! you just smile, accept it, and keep your pie hole shut! Didnt ANYONE learn ANYTHING from Miss Manners??

My husband made an easter basket for me last year and i almost died.... it was so cute and well thought out, not to mention very tasty..... i mean.. a GUY made an easter basket! how strange! Did we have the money to throw away on it? nooooo.... did i complain that now i had a crap load of candy to rott my teeth and add pounds to my rear when i really could have used a new pair shoes instead? nooooooo!

I'd like to make a basket for him this year.. if i can get away with it... i have the baskets already, and the straw.. but i dont know about what to put in it... He's a "gear head", loves his mustang and ranchero, he's also a MOPAR fan....
I'll have to really look around for some interesting car thingies for him....

I used to make them for my DH, but a couple years ago he started stocking up on Easter candy as soon as it hit the shelves.  His favorite candy in the world (and he has a lot of favorites) is the Life Saver Pastel Jelly Beans.  So I picked up a couple bags (to add to the collection of other Easter candy he's already bought) and decided I'd better give them to him early.  He was thrilled [:D]

well that would just take all the fun out of it!!
Honestly, i dont quite know what to do.... our aniversary is only a week AFTER Easter.... so i'm debating if i should save the goodies for later, or just do both.....

I make one for David EVERY year and he loves it.  I don't try for anything useful at all.

I sometimes  pick a basket that is purely frivolous, sometimes I pick one that will be useful AFTER easter (anything from a plastic bucket to a nice wicker basket).

I pick good candy, his favorites, and ALWAYS stupid toys.

I have a small 'bunny' this year that says "SOMEbunny loves you!"

One year I got him the Cadbury Bunny and he LOVED it.

I always pick some idiot toy so he can play with the dogs (something that talks, dances or sings).  Something completely fun.

If he likes mysteries then hide it and leave him clues where to find it.

If he has a secret desire for Big Macs then give him gift certificates.

It's all about TIME -- your time spent making something to please him.  THAT is what will please him more than anything else.

I totally agree Callie.  Who doesn't like getting stuff like this?  I'm such an easy to please person, and so is my DH.  I think I'm feeling motivated to give the basket thing a whirl again this year.  If nothing else, it's fun for me [:)]

I made one for DH the first year we were together (weren't married then) after that there's always been the kids. I remember putting in a Pez because we'd talked about how you never see them anymore. I think I also put in something like a coupon for dinner, plus some other candy. He used to get me Snickers eggs until the changed the formula, bah, don't like them anymore! Now we just eat the kids' candy after they've gone to bed!

you know its a little OT but all this talk of inlaws lately reminded me of something.....
My MIL is a super freak health nut.... drives me fricken crazy most of the time.... you cant even enjoy a pop cicle in her presence.
I remember once hearing her complain about all the "Candy Holidays" ....Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Christmas, and how terrible it is, stuffing kids full of so much sugar..... BUT .... she practicly expects an Easter Basket from her hubby every year... i just find that a little hypocritical.. and no her easter basket isnt filled with granola or health foods either..
Its also a tradition in their family to bite the ear off the chocolate bunny the night before Easter or something... my parents never did such an injustice to us.

This is along the lines of what I get every year - it's basically a nookie basket, filled with ALL kinds of unmentionables!  It's AWESOME!  And he always includes a small box of gourmet chocolate, the kind that will kill Slick if he so much as inhales it.  I love Easter!  [:D]

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I am going to go to the dollar store and get some fun silly stuff and make easter baskets for Ron AND for Cole!  :)  I also think I'll head up to Dick's sporting goods for some fishing lures or something cool.  I thought it would be neat if I could find one of those baskets they put golf balls in, to use for Ron's easter basket.  :)

I'll take pics of the baskets and post 'em when I'm done!  He's out of the house on Thursday so I'll have time to do my sneaky dirty work!

I always have trouble finding items small enough for a basket for dh. One year I bought him something he wanted for the yard...a hedge clipper or something like that and I made the box into an easter bunny.  Cardboard ears and feet, chicklet teeth, oversized cotton balls for the "lips" and nose, etc. Then I attached a little basket with candy in it.
