Update - Shaving, Waxing, Creams, Epilator, Etc - What do you do?

I bought the most horrible & painful torture device ever yesterday. Here it is:
    [linkhttp://www.amazon.com/Revlon-Smooth-Glamorous-Gentle-Removal/dp/B000JK1RS0/ref=sr_1_14/002-4560513-4116848?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1175197618&sr=8-14]http://www.amazon.com/Revlon-Smooth-Glamorous-Gentle-Removal/dp/B000JK1RS0/ref=sr_1_14/002-4560513-4116848?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1175197618&sr=8-14[/link]

What this thing essentially does is cause an extreme amount of pain by pulling out the hair by the root. Waxing seems much easier, faster and less painful than this horrific Satan-made device. However, my best friend has been raving about this thing for YEARS. She loves it. She uses it every month and half or so and her legs always feel and look super soft. When the hair does start to grow back, it's softer and easier and less painful when she uses this thing.

I bought it to use on my legs. I HATE shaving. I can't afford to wax every few weeks. The thing is, I can just get done shaving, have super smooth legs, and within 5 MINUTES my legs can have stubble again. I'm not kidding. All it takes is for me to get cold for just a second and it's back. I HATE it!!! I want to scream every single time. So I bought this thing with the hope that it would at least help my problem. I used it last night, bit my tongue and held back my tears through the pain, and could only get through some of my left calf. My mistake was that I had just shaven the night before so the hairs weren't really long enough to pull. Right now, parts of my left calf are very smooth and other parts are really stubbly still.

This got me thinking though, what do you guys do? What have you found works the best? Have you ever used the above device? And what about . . umm . . . bikini waxing? I've wanted to do this, but have been scared of the pain. After last night though, I think I can handle it. [8D] This thing is essentially a really long and painful waxing.

To be honest I've never bikini waxed.  I do, however, shave my head and my face.  My own opinion is that a razor works pretty well.

I shave, and it's a great big pain. I could shave twice a day, and I'd have stubble in between. I hate it, and I've been considering waxing. The only problem with that is, I have very sensitive skin. It can't handle band aid adhesive, how is it going to take hot wax? I'm afraid it'll tear my skin right off.

This thread could be very amusing, and useful[:D]

That's how my legs are! I could shave multiple times a day and it's feel as if I hadn't at all. I really, REALLY hate it when I go over to my bf's house and he comments on how I didn't shave when I DID!!! I want to slap him.

You might want to look into the laser hair removal.  I had it done on my underarms and bikini area, and it stings some, but nothing worse than waxing.  It's pricey, which is why I only did 3 sessions, instead of the recommended 5.  What they say is that about 20% of your hair follicles are active at any one time, so it supposedly takes 5 sessions, spread out over months, to get them all.  Since I didn't finish the sessions, I have less underarm hair, but still shave it, the bikini area is pretty good though, so I don't worry about that.  I do shave my legs every single day when I take a shower though.  It's such a habit for me, I hardly even think about it.

p.s. that thing you bought always seemed like some torture device invented by a guy with a sick mind [;)]

Doesn't it just LOOK evil? The blades at the top. They try and make it all cute by having it be pink, but it should be more like red for blood. I had a few small blood splatters on mine! My friend insists that if I use it for 5 times, I will not feel anymore pain and it will be have been a wonderful investment. We'll see.

If you manage to make it thru 5 times, you'll have to let us all know if it truly works.  The very first time I saw it advertised I thought "you've got to be kidding!!  What woman would want to do that?"  Based on the number of people who've gotten tatoos though, I may be one of the few woosies left [:)]

This is a bit of an embarrassing topic but what the hell… it won#%92t be the first time I have embarrassed myself on this forum and certainly not the last either. ..[:)]

I mainly use shaving as my means of hair removal. I wax my own eyebrows and have tried to wax the “bikini area” before but it always was insanely painful, I bled like hell and had bumps all the times I have tried.  I have never tried professional waxing in the “nether regions” and would love to get a full Brazilian but I am too much of a chicken. I have 1 friend that does this regularly and she said it was incredibly painful for the first ½ dozen or so times she did it but now she is pretty use to it and it isn#%92t so bad. BUT she has much thinner hair than I do so I worry that it will be even more painful for me AND the cost is really prohibitive for me to do it regularly.

As far as the general bikini area goes, the best thing I have found for me is close to daily shaving.  If I go longer than a couple of days I start to itch and this is NOT the best place to be scratching (people might get the wrong idea).[;)]
I do the majority of it myself but if I feel like I need a closer shave in some “harder to reach areas” I call on DH to help…. Surprisingly he has no problem complying with my request for assistance! [8D]

I would LOVE to do laser hair removal but it is very pricey. Perhaps some day I can give it a try!

You'll have to let us know, after you use it five times. If it's works, it's probably worth five torturings and $60.

I wax down south and shave the legs and armpits.  I'm VERY lucky in that my hair is fine and not deeply rooted, so waxing is a complete piece of cake for me.  I've literally fallen asleep during a Brazilian wax.  During the summer I shave the legs and pits about once/week and not at all in the cooler months.  Don't hate me because I'm hairless!!!  [:D]

Shaver here, good old Daisy disposable!...I have used creams before..they smell and don't work that well IME.
Laser...yeah after the money comes in from the lottery win...lmao.

I'd think an area like the bikini line would be a good candidate for electroysis? Not many hairs, easy to grab and zap? I don't know tho. Never tried waxing...esp near the nethers...no thanks. I don't mind pain in certain circumstances but that ain't one of em!

I am not a frenetic shaver...my leg hairs don't grow that fast or heavily.

That device purchased does look formidable...

I wax.  It is painful at first but each time I wax again it is less painful.  I started out waxing every 3 weeks but after a while the frequency has decreased.  I now wax every 6 weeks.  If you can stomach it, (I can't) you can always use the at home wax kits.  Personally, I prefer the precut wax strips to the giant jar of wax.

I also have bikini waxes done.  In a word OUCH, but it sure does make it easy on me.  I opt for a Brazilian & I can tell you that you get very "up close & personal" with the person waxing you.

I'm fortunate, am blonde so I only get small dark hairy patches below my knees - regular razor works and lasts about five days before I get a little stubble.  I always soak in a tub full of water as hot as I can stand it before I shave legs and "the region" and I think that's why I get some mileage out of it.  Bikini line is very manageable with an electric shaver trim and regular razor for closer work.  Armpits, I use a regular razor, though in the winter, unless my boyfriend is over, I only hit them twice a week (snowy weather does have an advantage).  I find if I let them go instead of shaving every day, I have less re-growth and less razor burn.

Witch Hazel, applied immediately to areas prone to bumpiness after shaving, actually works wonders to eliminate them.  That's the only useful piece of information I ever heard from Howard Stern, radio dj, and one of his typical female guests.
